That's a pretty bold step, moving to a completely different country. After living as a civilian in a different country and belonging to its own culture, I now feel a bit freer of the ties of so-called patriotism. Of course I still love my country but now it's all just borders to me. Whether I live here or live there, as long as I can speak the language and eat the food, it doesn't really matter to me where I am, at least on a personal level. I have no more sense of belonging anywhere, that wherever I am I can make it work. I don't feel American or European; I don't feel anything, actually.
It's strange, but surprisingly it's a nice feeling. It's almost like you're invisible.
