EDIT: never mind - I actually do know how this works though, have for years... I'm running on 3 hours of sleep.

Got it sussed - look at the pictures each time you click the ball for the same number it changes. There are only certain numbers it can be eg. 11-2=9, 12-3=9, 13-4=9. All the possible numbers have the same pictures, each time it changes.

Shane - you forgot to add the 8's together - 88-16=72 which works.
