OT: Harassment and deportation of Stream of Passion?!

Great point Beelz... and that IS the whole point. We've got a fucked up little country here, and there is a lot wrong with it. BUT, there is a lot of great stuff here too. And honestly, if it weren't for the government and us having a monkey as president, i'm pretty sure most people wouldn't be so down on the place.

I'll bring this back to music here. To me this discussion feels a lot like metalheads and non-metalheads making fun of metal. For instance, a group of metalheads is talking and one says "oh, manowar is gay", then lulz ensue and someone else says "and corpsepaint looks like clown make-up" and more lulz ensue. It's fine because you're all tied together as part of the same community. When an outsider comes in and says "manowar is gay and corpsepaint looks like clown make-up", you don't take it in the same lulzy way. That's how this discussion is to me. I'm here, i live here, i know what it is like. I happen to live in a very liberal part of america, and being here i can see that we aren't a malicious, inbred, retarded country. There are people and places in this country that make the entire place look bad, but overall it's a good place.

Again, as Beelz said, i'm NOT going to say "this is the greatest country in the world! America, fuck yea!!" but it is home for me and many of our other forumers. Not to mention the band that you are all here for...

but i think - without looking back over the other pages - only one person (crapola) was having a go at americans themselves..not to rat out crapola, but i think the majority of us foreigners dont have a prob with the people in general and are not trying to disrespect who you are.. alot of great things have come out of the u.s. as have great things come out of pretty much every country around the world..

That was kind of it. I know a lot of it was in good humor, but yeah, some comments weren't too cool.

Every country has problems, and every country has really good things about it. I know coming from me this rant sounds incredibly hypocritical  buuut oh well. I don't have to 'splain SHIT to you folks :D

what alot of the mass public don't seem to understand is the news - both tv and newspaper - is owned by a very rich and influential somebody who exerts alot of bias over what is reported based on their own political and financial agenda. which is why you have to look at as many sources as possible, from all over the world, and try and construct your own truth from the coinciding pieces of information.. and i think the absolute most intelligent thing a person can do in this case, is to remain skeptical and never outright believe everything you hear.

yeah but in all honestly, can i really be assed to read more than one newspaper?

nah.

theres just no point, i only read newspapers on saturdays, and i read 4 newspapers, mail, mirror, sun, and express (due to the fact i have an hour and a half of break and nothing better to do). the main points in all the stories never actually vary to a degree that worries me.

Well im american.. and im bassically saying the majority of the fucks that live here are babbling idiots.. American Pop Culture is nauseating.. The idiocy and ignorance that america's youth have these days is enough to bring me to shame for my own country.. but hey thats my opinion...

well, i guess most of you will be happy to know that i wont be around much anyway, my daughter is moving out and taking her comp with her... there goes my access to the internet unless i can be bothered going to the library...

SR asked
who the hell is david boon?

Possibly Tasmania's all-time favourite cricketing son, David Boon was a pugnacious right-handed batsman who served his state and country with enormous distinction. He was not always the most stylish player, but for what he lacked in fluency he more than compensated with his ardour for occupying the crease and accumulating runs when they were most needed. As an 18 year old, Boon played a starring role in Tasmania's history-making Gillette Cup win in 1978-79, the state's first interstate one-day title, and he never really looked back over the course of an elite-level career which spanned 17 years. Among many highlights were his roles in four Ashes series wins, particularly the 1989 triumph and his honour in hitting the series-winning runs; his flawless unbeaten 184 in the Bicentenary Test of 1988; and his Man-of-the-Match winning effort in the 1987 World Cup final. Predominantly in the No. 3 position, Boon's durability was a vital ingredient in Australia's resurgence as a cricketing power in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His courage was often at the core of Australian performances and it was common to see his belligerent square cutting, driving and pulling upsetting the rhythm of even the finest of bowlers.

Aside from a range of triumphs with Australia during 107 Tests and 181 ODIs, Boon also led Durham in the English County Championship between 1997 and 1999, guiding the side to its best finish in the last of these three years. He was also appointed to the post of Tasmania captain at different ends of his career and was at the helm when his state enjoyed a fruitful first-class season in 1997-98. After retiring from all cricket following the completion of the 1999 county program, Boon accepted a position in marketing with the Tasmanian Cricket Association in Hobart and in 2000 replaced Geoff Marsh, his mate and former opening partner, as an Australia selector. His legend also lives on at the NTCA ground in his home city of Launceston where a major stand has been named after him.
