OT - Steve Irwin has died :(

I was just coming here to post the same thing.

I definitely feel for his family and friends, it's obvious he was very close to those near him.

yeah - like him or not he did alot of good for animals.. with his documentaries and movie projects etc he put it all toward wildlife funds and lived on a basic salary in the house his dad built.. I dont know who else will ever do that sort of thing. i never liked how americans often compared aussies to him - that was annoying lol.. but he wasnt a bad person. however, on a brighter note if you're going to die let it at least be doing something you love - which happened to him.. and his job was a very dangerous one, so its not entirely a surprise..

I feel for his wife and kids, hopefully she will continue his work..

The good he did with animals goes without saying. However, I'm not quite sure where you get the impression that AMERICANS equate AUSSIES with Steve Erwin. Frankly, I think most people with one eye and half a brain equated him with the word CRAZY. He took lots of unnecessary risks with his life and yes, his death does not come as much of a surprise. I sometimes felt his international fame put added pressure on him to pursue increasingly ridiculous behavior, i.e. involving his child in his work. A shame, no doubt, that he has died, but you have to wonder for what, exactly he died for.

:erk:

I'm very bummed, as a person who likes animals more than most people,
I really liked his approach to wildlife shows, and as SR said, at least he checked out doing what he loved. What a way to go, :(

So jon dies and everyone gets in a religiious debate but this guy dies and everyone gets all weepy? *sigh*

Not to detract from anything... he was a very good entertainer. He did his job well and died for it, which is great. Hailz to Steve.

That dude sounded like a looney. And he actually wanted to die :puke:. Bit of a difference.

Yeah he was really a funny and nice guy and his tv shows always were quite interesting and exciting (I loved him saying: "Oh look there, 2 miles away in a small bush under the stone, there's the incredible rare snake we were looking for!). It's sad that he is dead now, especially for his family.

This is sad...but as I said in the other thread, I kind of suspect he would've preferred this to a lot of other (more sedentary) ways to go.

But no matter what, I know this has to be rough on his family and friends. :(

Getting killed by a stingray should be listed in Maddox's most manly ways to die. I remember I used to watch that show all the time when I was younger, and I actually went out in my backyard to look for snakes often.

What an awesome guy, it's a shame he had to go so soon :(

I thought about posting this yesterday when I first saw it flash across CNN, but thought, "Naw, these guys probably don't even know who Steve Irwin is." Once again, my fellow SymXers have surprised me.

To the Crocodile Hunter! :kickass:
