OT: Trivium - Not a rumor but true.

I heard from a very close friend that Matt Heafy' Father is a big shot that works for Clear Channel. I have also heard that he plans to market Trivium as a be all/end all world dominating metal outfit! Complete w/Trivium trivia board games, Trivium bed sheets and ultimately a Trivium Debit card that allows you to earn bonus points on any Trivium purchase of $299 or more.

seriously though, I did hear that his father has allowed them to go for broke with this band, something that allot of other metal bands can not afford to do. Is this a bad thing? no. Is this a true metal thing? no. Is this a smart business move? Absolutely! Thankfully his father had the heart to allow him to pursue his dream.
He could have easily said no and made his sons band actually work for a living and struggle to acheive their dream. Now all matt needs to do is respect the fact that countless metal artist before him had to work for this dream, not every one gets a break like trivium did. He realy needs to let that be reflected in interveiws instead of hiding it. I feel that by matt being honest about the financial backbone of band he may gain more respect from the crowd. I could be wrong though, honesty does go along way.

The top half was oozing sarcasm and the bottom was an actual observation, not a knock towards the band. Im not a fan of flame wars or blabbermouth type arguments. I much prefer debates. Also, I didnt say their was anything wrong with how they got where they are I said that matt heafy really needs to respect that fact, I dont mean to pick on him but he has this cocky legend like attitude for such a green musician

Ive spent a bit of time around the band and crew. Manily Matt and the Tour Manager Martin. I found Matt to be a really decent guy with a good sense of humour. I dont know why everyones so keen to bag him. Bruce Dickinson came from a background with cash as well and you cant really doubt his place in metal history.

What a bunch of idiots for following a proper business model and making money. They should be like the Crown, drink and drug themselves silly then disband because they are piss poor. But at least the Crown is true!

so is this the official "I Hate Trivium Thread"?

it is possible crew members were told not to wear anything but trivium shirts. Maybe it was to break in a new roadie. Initiation ya know? Hasn't anyone screwed with you at a new job? i once got sent to find a "left handed board stretcher". my supervisor caught me at just the right time. noramaly i would have asked "WTF?". but i was tired and it was the end of the day, so i was just happy to get out of the shop. Every one in the plant knew the rules of the game and everyone i asked would send me to the farthest point away they could. all the while I was pondering: "what the hell IS a left handed board stretcher?"

Just to clear things up.........Brian heafy (matts dad) was a ceo of a soft ware start up and is indeed wealthy, i have not found proof that he works for
clearchannel...however......his father and the entertainment lawyer and co manager have infact made the ride to success a smooth one meaning that the band does not have to work day jobs to make ends meet like most other new up and comming metal outfits.

it's almost like street cred. like rap, if you didnt grow up hard, and didnt struggle to make it, people question how true you are. personally i like Trivium but i liked them before this tread and i had no idea that dudes father was part of the reason behind their success, but it does not change how i feel about their music (which is really what should matter).

It has absolutely nothing to do with street cred or being true...unless of course you are numbskull when it comes to business and economics. The point that i was trying to make is that matt heafy comes off as a very cocky person for someone who didnt have to struggle w/a day job, bills, impending debt. Im not saying that having to deal with those things allows you to be a cocky prick but learn some humility, become a legend before you act like one.

i actually ended up at a Trivium show a few months ago. i'm not really what you'd call a "metal fan", but i can surely go to metal shows, i'm just not an enthusiast. I went because I was invited when one of the dudes from this band i work with dropped out and i found out THE SWORD was playing.

i didn't really pay much attention to them, because by the time they came on, i had already spent $30 on beer and was having a good time anyway. BUT after, the show, i met the dude (matt) and he didn't really seem all that cocky.

i talked to the dudes from the SWORD and kind of joked with them because I like to heckle the bands and at first they seemed kind of pissed until they realized i'm just shittin' around. I don't understand why all the bands I yell at never play Tuesday's Gone.

dude....you just said the same thing i said but in a different way. you are right it's not the same but i never said it was the same. i said it was like it. the point i was trying to make is that people dont like rich cocky peeps with attitudes...because if you are rich you have shit to complain about.

You're entirely welcome on this forum, so don't get me wrong, but I just have to ask- isn't the Andy Sneap forum a strange place to hang out if you're not a metal fan? :goggly:

Isn't it stranger that this guy thinks that The Sword is not metal???

Shit sounds a whole helluva lot like Sabbath to me.

Yeah, i'm into older stuff like Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, etc... but modern metal, I'm not really all about it. I do understand where it's coming from though. I just don't really listen to a lot of metal because I feel that recordings usually don't do it justice - you need to be at the show and feel it.

I like working on metal mixes since they're usually so dense and it's a good challenge. I constantly revisit my old mixes and I've learned a lot since I started. Besides, 90% of the bands around here are metal and if I can get a few really good sounding projects down and get the word out, I may be able to actually fund some new mics etc... hah.
