Think I'll pull like everyone else and completely avoid them over the name, album covers, and other predetermined non-musical prejudices. :)

bah, if it ain't Tool, boring prog or stoner, One Incher isn't game. ;) :loco:

I like this. Nice keys, epic, good chanting/choir vocals and black metal vocals. Nice.

Here are excerpts from a review:

The 2nd album of this pagan squad from the north of Russia is more considered, conceptual and serious way of realisation of personal perception of ancestral memory then previous work. The arranges are complex with lots of secondary disseminations. This work suits for pagan metal, because only vocal of black remained.

I'll mention that during the listening there's no pagan evil felt, that thrilling feeling of despair, struggle and hatred. Pagan Reign are not dark paganists, but more Sun-worshippers, as their ancestors were. I'd call it step aside from main stylistic frames, but everyone may regard this fact in own way. The musicians expressed their worldview by imitating and reconstructinf the world of olden times, giving their ancestors theirs due through the music. As a whole, "Otbleski Slavy I Vozrozhdenie Bylogo Velichia" reproduce the atmosphere of Slav ardour, happiness, and only "Поднимая Руки к Небу" is really sad expressing real sorrow. "Господство Язычества" also may be called evoking various thoughts and emotions song.

The melodies have lots of intros and unexpected inflammatory passages from intense to calm rhythms. Sounds of little bells add some atmosphere, and there are some other atmosphere Russian sounds I'm unable to name. Vocalist Orey toils in some variations - screaming, low growls and clean peculiar to pagan metal voice. There's also some of female vocal. The stuff was recorded and produced very qualified - because famous Lasar is responsible for this. Gratefully we now begin to produce the things which meet world standards. Maybe the album has lack of spite, gloom and aggression, but I can't call it unsuccessful work. The musicians of Pagan Reign are proffesionals and they work with all responsibility and this can't be underestimated. All above-mentioned merits allow me to mark the "Otbleski Slavy I Vozrozhdenie Bylogo Velichia" with top mark.

10/10

I was joking of course, only an idiot would ignore a group based on qualities that had nothing to do with the music! :Spin:

I like the vocals and guitar work. Nothing extraodinary or original, but perfectly okay stuff. Sort of has an Empyrium - Songs of Your Mom in a Misty Minefield vibe to it, which of course is a good thing. These riffs are quite tasty the more I listen actually, might need to look further into these dudes this next winter.

The second song totally kicks my ass, and thus seals the deal for me to buy these albums. Thank you, JayK.

For some reason, I'm reminded of a cleaner, less black metal version of Nachtfalke.

Cool stuff. I'm digging it too. The MP3s are samples from each of the albums, from latest to oldest respectively. So as you can tell, the third MP3 has the more 'raw' sound to it.

I had some mp3s on my computer, but earlier today, the electricity went out, and suddenly, my computer wasn't working anymore... I'll definately check them out more thoroughly when I get that piece of junk operational again.

I would also like to buy some Pagan Reign, along with some Sunchariot. Seeing as they're both Russian bands, it would be cool if I could just get them together at the same time.

And while we're at it, anyone heard any Butterfly Temple? I can find their site, but I don't see any MP3s...

One Russian guy I know from around here lists Butterfly Temple (Along with Temnozor) as a couple of his favourite bands. who knows? Temnozor, from what I've heard, is very cool.

I've read BT being compared to happy melodic folk type bands. I'll wait till someone else checks them out.

Temnozor only has two releases. I'd go with Horizons first.

Nachtfalke has three releases. I prefer Hail Victory Teutonia, but Doomed to Die is slowly climbing to my favorite spot. HVT is an hour long, DtD is 35 minutes if that has any bearing on your decision. Land of Frost is good, but I think it falls short of the previous two. Looking forward to the new one.
