Pain of Salvation and Anathema

Pain Of Salvation and Anathema...two of the most emotionally resonant bands in any genre. You can't go wrong with the last three albums from both bands...pure melancholic brilliance. Yes, I think POS can be just as effective at wiping the smile off your face as Anthema...just listen to A Trace Of Blood or Her Voices.

Sometimes the hands that feed
Must feed a mind with a sick need
And the hands that clutch can be
The same hands that touch too much
Eyes that hungrily stare
Read in an access that's not there
While eyes close to hide tears
Or look away in fear
Run away!

have you visited the Pain of Salvation message board?

i've posted there something, under the nick "sun vallee"; i can remember i wrote an analysis of remedy lane and a couple of other things, not too much.
and probably you're not interested to know, but anyway... :goggly:

In my opinion, Anathema have matured and become more interesting with each release. On the other hand, Pain of Salvation has become more formulatic and boring with each relase. PoS's Entropia is amazing, but they have gone downhill since. I know I am in the minority, but I think Remedy Lane is extremely weak and uninteresting.

Well...as someone who has nearly memorized all the music in the 4 POS cd's (=P)...I'm going to have to say that I think it is exactly the opposite--Entropia *is* amazing, and it all goes uphill from there.

Anyways, I encourage anyone interested to judge for themselves. Don't accept dolphz's word on it, and don't accept my word on it--listen to the albums and see what you think :)

PoS is tied for my favorite band... and I regard "The Perfect Element Part 1" to be the greatest album ever recorded. Their follow-up "Remedy Lane" is almost as incredible... I listen to it constantly. First two albums are masterpieces as well. Their music is truly progressive. If you're looking for a band that sounds like your favorite band... then don't bother with PoS... they have a completely unique sound.

Anathema is a band I have gotten into recently... I don't like their early stuff... which was doom/death. But I really enjoy their last 3 albums... which have been a progression into a lighter (yet still dark) territory featuring the amazing clean vocals of Vincent Cavanagh. "Judgement" is my favorite album of theirs.
