What?! Opeth > Agalloch. Period. Agalloch are amazing, but better than Opeth?! AND WHOEVER THE FUCK SAID THAT THE MANTLE IS BETTER THAN MY ARMS YOUR HEARSE, IS A FUCKING RETARD! No offense Demonspell. :p

I agree, anyone who has heard Agalloch knows how inaccurate the Opeth comparions are...I basically made that comment to get the original poster and anyone else reading to reconsider the value of the album, and to provoke reactions. And I'll continue to stand by it, The Mantle is one of my top twenty albums of all time.

I'll be at the Seattle show on Friday. It will be my third Agalloch show in about as many months! :loco: I can't wait to get my hands on the new 7".

Are you gonna go to the Portland show again too? hehe That 7" will be great to buy early!

P.S. Give it time, Spike...it took me a long while of owning Agalloch CD's before I realized how fucking brilliant they are. But to each his own, naturally...

I thik I will do exactly that. :D

I wasn't planning to listen to this band again for quite some time, bus as I left all my mp3 cd's at home today  I have to listen to the CD I left at work in the CD tray, which I was listening to yesterday (I wanted to listen to the other CD I burnt at the same tame as the origional today, but oh well)

I suppose I should be very greatful though, as since I have to fill up all 8 working hours with music ;) I can't really skip anything, including Agalloch.....

...And on it's second listen through alone, it would appear that my opinion of this band has leaped significantly!! :D

So much so that I can't figure out why I disliked it so much just yesterday.

I think it might be cos I listeened to the demo and the EP first.

Anyway, I am starting to realise that they are a very good band (with the exception of a few highly annoying elements in the earlier albums... barking dogs, anyone? :Smug: )

So yeah, I'll defenitely give this lot a few more spins if/before I decide to put it to rest.... Thanks for the advice y'all. :D

Spike (Who is unexpectedly impressed)

Well, over the past few days The Mantle has grown on me some more. I can't believe it took me so long to appreciate "You Were But A Ghost In My Arms" and "The Hawthorne Passage" :erk:

Spike -

Good to see that you gave Agalloch a 2nd chance, a lot of people are afraid to do that with bands.

Looks as if I probably won't be going to the Seattle show tonight. I just got a call from a friend who was attending the show with me and he canceled. I hate it when people cancel out at the last minute

. Their is still a chance if I can drag along another friend of mine along, but I doubt it. I refuse to go by myself based on my car and the fact that it just isn't as fun when you're by yourself.

No.

Agalloch are alright, but I don't understand why everyone thinks they're so great. I have the Mantle, I bought it because of everyone here saying how great it was, and I find it quite boring to be honest. The vocals are monotonous, there are some good ideas in there, but I get the feeling that they won't get anywhere near Opeth's level for another few albums.

I don't mind them though, but still, they aren't as good as I was led to believe by you lot :)

The only people who seem to do that whole comparing Agalloch with Opeth is silly, lazy journos. It is stupid.

yeah agalloch is a great band
the mantle is a flawless album

however, in my opinion i believe their music is just a little too pretentious sounding
i mean the wording and words used in the lyrics makes me laugh sometimes
it's great to make intelligent lyrics, but they reek of pretentiousness
don't get me wrong though, they're a great and talented band.
