I don't know if Im the only one, but I go through little stages where I can't stop playing a certain game.

for me

It use to be Neverwinter Nights - played it to death in single player, then I eventually left the multiplayer server I was at and couldn't find one I was happy with after that.

Then it was Counterstrike Source - eventually got tired of the 13 yr old whiners crying cause I killed them

Then I progressed on to Guild Wars - whilst all my friends proceeded to pay to play WoW. I just don't get into pay to plays.

Then I was plagued with a period of time where I wasn't happy playing any games, but

finally I installed Hellgate London and I can't stop playing it. Its pretty wicked...still not use to all the stuff going on but its still fun as hell.

I've been looking at that one game called The Witcher...I might pick that up when Hellgate London gets old.

I recently cancelled my WoW account after nearly three years; in the meantime I've been playing a lot of Civ IV again.

In the past, I lost many years of my life to ... Caesar IV, Diablo II, NWN, Alpha Centauri (Civ on another planet), all the various Tomb Raiders, Max Payne... I'm tempted to install Max Payne again, in fact.

well, i usually dont lose interest in most games, (as i primarily play RPGS,) until i beat it.

my top games have been
Oblivon- beat it, but still played it for a while after. its more the fantasy aspect i love so much...and finding perfect views to screenshot...hah. would still play once in a while if the game didnt auto-save my brothers game over mine.

FFX- beat it, great game. i still like to play it a little during my summers off.
cant say enough about the game.

WoW- was fun for a while. never really got too high or good, i always used to
start over new characters which was my favorite part: the first 24 total hours fo play or so.

Diablo I/II- great stuff. didnt get too far on I cos II came out soon after i bought I. II was great though, awesome game. that, while i did make new chars alot, i did get good on. was a really awesome game and loved it. i eventually, after a good 2 years, sold my acct back when ppl still bought stuff.

Zelda (n-64 games)- cant say enough good stuff. ocarina is like, the creator of great rpg's to me. it was my first, definitly an amazing game which i also like to play again during the summer. majoras mask was great too, but i dont play that one at all since i beat it.

Ogre Battle- this was a fun game. it was one of the first rpgs that also had cut-scene, move style battles. very cool. dont really play this anymore either.

Rome-Total War- played this alot. it was fun, everyone now and then ill go back and play a little.

Past:

Tribes/Tribes 2
Total Annihilation
Warcraft III
Diablo
Command and Conquer

Present:

Battlefield 2 - I savor the day something takes the top spot from Battlefield 2 for me - as this game never gets old!

im revisiting the final fantasy series for the billionth time it seems, amazing how good the replay value is on those rpgs... ill probably buy a ps3 just for the ff13 games, beat them, then sell it all on ebay. i just beat FF12 again and am on FFX (lost count).

revisiting zelda: oracle of seasons/ages. i have an hour of free time @ work every day so i use that hour to play these. fantastic games.

past addictions:
wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too many!

i had planned to quit d2 after getting bored with it after a year or so, so i was making this character to sell as a package, i figure i would have gotten about 100-150 from it cause i actually had some fascinating stuff on that char, but then right as i had planned to sell it, the ladder reset and many of the things i had became pretty worthless. it sucked!

I kind of dropped off the gaming world for a while, but recently got addicted to playing a racing game called TrackMania. I wish I had all those hours back, but I can't stop.

Last time I was playing something a lot was Unreal Tournament 2003. I did play Half Life 2 and episode 1 when they came out.

Sadly, the new, modern machines I have (Win XP) don't want to run those old games. :waah:

DOSBox is a dream come true for us fans of old DOS games. It basically emulates an old DOS machine, and includes options for setting screen resolutions, frame rates, and pretty much anything else you can think of. If you know your way around DOS-like commands and editing config files, then DOSBox is a snap; if not, there are plenty of tips/instructions online for using it.

And most of those old DOS games are available for download (legally or illegally) on abandonware sites. Some of the sites I use are:

http://abandonia.com/index2.php
http://dosgamer.com/

In the case of old Windows games, simply running them in Windows 98 or 95 compatibility mode will often make them playable. If not, check the internet for patches that make them compatible with XP.

Totally necessary for playing my ultimate favorite dos game...

Betrayal at Krondor

The Fallout franchise - best game I've ever played. Also the really old X-Com franchise. And Gears Of War. I hate FPS games most of the time.

Doesn't work for everything. I tried getting Warcraft II to play on DOS Box but would simply crash everytime I fired up the game. I tried looking for some work arounds, but didn't have any luck.
