Pelican has been one of my favorite bands over the last couple years. What are some other bands (besides the obvious: isis, neurosis, etc.) that have great atmosphere in the songs. they dont have to be instrumental either.

I would like pelican a lot more if they didn't sound like they were recorded with a computer microphone. As far as atmosphere, I like Sigur Ros, Explosions in the SKy, and Agalloch (mostly the Mantle).

Love them, but their new album is pretty disappointing in my opinion. It has its moments but its sooooooooooooooo far behind the other two full lengths.

Seen em live a few times and they were great. Might see them when they come back up here, could change my mind on some of the new songs.

Many dig the likes of Mouth of the Architect, Zatokrev, Callisto, Minsk, Russian Circles, Transmission 0 etc. etc. etc. Anyway, when it comes to derivative "SIS" bands, Cult of Luna is your best bet IMO. In my books, their latest album easily crush Isis' "In the Absence of Truth".

Cult of Luna are one of my favourite bands, so yeh.. Definitely check them out if you haven't heard them already.

lol.. He said not like the obvious one and even stated Isis!

Oh yeh! Jesu .. How could i forget?! Arcade Fire are a great band too.. like Indie with a post rock edge.

I don't care if he said besides Isis. Because they rule, imo. Cult of Luna is also great though.

I also recommend Giant. They are sort of new and obscure, and I don't even think they are considered metal. But the music is very good. Not intstrumental but very similar to Pelican.

Here is Giant's myspace: http://www.myspace.com/giantnc

From what i've heard of Envy's earlier material, It's just not in line with Insomniac Doze or what i would suggest for what the guy has asked in this thread - sort of like.. Decent screamo/hardcore style thing.. Probably not actually those genres.. But it's not Post Metal for sure. To me it wasn't bad, and i'm sure theres plenty more stuff from them that is good.. But i'd just advise sticking to that for now.

And yeh, Wreath.. He probably said besides Isis, because he's probably heard them already and is looking for new bands lol.
