I thought Steven Wilson did the mellotron stuff on Damnation. Didn't Per join right before Ghost Reveries? I dunno, I don't have a problem with the keyboard additions. It was very tastefully done on Damnation, and I like the stuff on GR as well. Haven't heard the older songs modified, though.

Yeah, they got him to come for the Lamentations tour and then he became a permanent member after that. I don't think the older songs have been modified, at least I couldn't hear it in Brisbane. He does take some solos though. Crazy stuff.

Lol at the sweet puns:lol:

I don't mind what he does with Ghost Reveries but I agree it would be interesting to hear it without the keyboard. I've heard When with keyboards and in my opinion, some things just should NOT be tampered with. Although I like what he does with closure a LOT.

I'm pretty sure Steven Wilson did, just read the booklet.

I've seen Opeth twice with Per, and I didn't think he detracted from the older stuff. In fact, the times I noticed him it was awesome. Especially when they played Under the Weeping Moon, during the eerie part where Mike is makign all sorts of crazy noises, Per was doing some crazy cool ambience sounds that just made it all the more evil.

In Masters Apprentices, with the "Haaaaaahhhh aaaahhHH!" bits. Is steven Wilson in that too? I remember watching Lamentations "The Making..." and he puts his voice in the mix, but it's quite distinctive compared to Mike's and I can't hear it.

I laughed when Steven was recording that part, he sounded like a preteen haha.

I think part of the reason that many don't like the keyboards on older songs, is that it is unusual.

We want to hear what is on the records, and when the keyboard inerferes we dont like it.
