PERIPHERY Icarus Lives Video Premiere

Never heard the band until today. Meh, I don't get the hype personally. Sounds like pop meshuggah.

Not the best video ever, but not the worst I've seen either. Also, if that's fucking crabcore then I don't know any metal band that isn't. Metal guitarists have been playing that way for years.

I dig the video. It is atypical. Much better than the usual "lets do a band performance in a train yard" or whatever.

For the budget I imagine they have, its great!

This.

It isn't as amazing as some of the newer film clips we've become familiar with like some Behemoth ones, but it is still a good job and something a little out of the ordinary.

If I was a new band and that was my video, I'd be pretty stoked I guess.

I still can't believe just how much interest I lost in Bulb's music as soon as vocals came on. I can normally switch off my mind to bad vocalists since 99% of metal has one, but this is just too much.

Interesting idea for a video, but it needed some changing up.

Just out of interest, what is it about the vocals you don't like?

How about everything? This type of vocal treatment lends itself well to music like Taking Back Sunday and NewFound Glory not fucking metal in the vein of Meshuggah.

It's laughable at best.

Music videos are so worthless nowadays. If I was in a big band on a label I'm sure I could think of a lot better ways to spend that money... (tour support for one)

The more I watch it the more it makes sense, just like the more I listen to the new song the more I like them.

This is certainly better than a warehouse video, and I bet it didn't cost allll that much to film it. Solid promotional tool, will be more memorable than anything else they could've done.

God that video was gay but to be fair most music videos are absolutely shit anyway.
I wish more bands would do something like what Meshuggah did for the New Millenium Cyanide Christ video, just fucking clown around, have a good time and put smiles on people's faces and even make you laugh, rather than this gay stereotypical heavy metal crap where it has to be "different" or "tough" or whatever in an attempt to look "cool"

So much unwarranted hype and the crabcore thrown in is just.. wtf?

This is the new Attack Attack.

Dude, what the fuck, don't even compare Periphery to. I can understand the music is not to everyone's taste, but muthafuckers have talent in spades, something Attack Attack will never have.

Honestly, I kinda feel the same way... I like the music a lot, and I think they're talented dudes... I even own some merch, so I'd definitely consider myself a fan (atleast for the past 2 years or so) but the vocals are kind of hurting the music for me. I think they work in some parts of the album, and are actually really good in a few sections, but there's a lot of really awkward sounding parts too... I think there's more parts I don't really like than parts I do like... which sucks, because I liked most of the instrumental versions of these songs. I like plenty of singing too, even this style of singing... I mean, I like pop bands like Circa Survive as well as all the metal bands I'm into, but the the clean vocals sound a bit awkward in some of these songs, and the screamed vocals sound pretty weak for most of the album...

I'm not really digging the guitar tone that ended up being used for the album much either. The clean sections sound great, but the distorted rhythm guitar has that annoying plasticy quality to it. The playing is tight and the mix is pretty clean... but I just don't like the guitar tone...

Racecar is definitely my favorite track of the album. It's nice and long, has a lot more space for the music, vocals that don't turn me off, and an awesome guest solo by Jeff Loomis, etc.

The vocal harmonies are annoying as fuck. Like slammed and tuned way way too much to the point it just pierces my ears. Screaming lacks balls. Can't understand most of the singing, forget the screaming. I'm getting used to the guitar tone, it sucks in some places but in some parts it is just perfect.

That said, Letter Experiment rocks hard. And I think it's cool they try to do things differently; I've never seen a video like this, and the songs do stand out from other bands. But with the poppy singing, they could have done more chorus/verse/chorus stuff and that shit would sell soooooo much.

You know what the worst thing is about the vocalist?
Zero
Fucking
Emotion.

He's all flashy and technical and tight and blah blah but there's no soul. Does absolutely nothing for me. I get what they're going for but Chris was far better for them. Casey was even worse than this guy though, I'm so glad he left. Jake was the best vocalist these guys ever had even if he couldn't sing a note in tune and had a weird ass growl. Fucker sounded like he was expressing his deepest emotions with every word.
Seriously, when someone can take a scream, which is generally associated with pure gut wrenching RAGE and make it sound completely disinterested, you know somethings fucked.

13:10 in Racecar is this guy's shining moment. It's about the only thing he does on the entire album that really connects with me. If the guy just emoted that much for the entire record I'd stop wishing they were instrumental.

As it is, I can just about tune the guy out, thank fuck.

Also, bulb outdid himself with the mix, srsly. are you guys listening to a different mix or some shit? shit is PURE punch.
