PERIPHERY Icarus Lives Video Premiere

For the people complaining about the vocalist, did you guys order the special edition that came with the instrumental CD? That's what I did, so I could listen to both

There's an instrumental CD with the special edition? Thank fuck. I had no idea.

Also, bulb outdid himself with the mix, srsly. are you guys listening to a different mix or some shit? shit is PURE punch.

I haven't DL'd it, I've only heard the songs on youtube but I imagine it would sound great on a nice system. The only thing is, did he fix the sub freq's for the CD? I have a bunch of his old mixes, and playing them in my car with subwoofers, the low end is just way too much and I can't stand it. Way too much sub 60hz, is that gone in this mix?

Haha haven't been following the news very closely?
They might have sold out by now though dude, I'm not sure. I pre ordered my copy AGES ago

You know what the worst thing is about the vocalist?
Zero
Fucking
Emotion.

He's all flashy and technical and tight and blah blah but there's no soul. Does absolutely nothing for me. I get what they're going for but Chris was far better for them. Casey was even worse than this guy though, I'm so glad he left. Jake was the best vocalist these guys ever had even if he couldn't sing a note in tune and had a weird ass growl. Fucker sounded like he was expressing his deepest emotions with every word.
Seriously, when someone can take a scream, which is generally associated with pure gut wrenching RAGE and make it sound completely disinterested, you know somethings fucked.

13:10 in Racecar is this guy's shining moment. It's about the only thing he does on the entire album that really connects with me. If the guy just emoted that much for the entire record I'd stop wishing they were instrumental.

As it is, I can just about tune the guy out, thank fuck.

I think Casey was really the epitome of what they were striving for... that whole high pitched, artsy, Anthony Green-ish style... the vocalists since then have been trying to mimic him...

I wasn't complaining about the mix, just the guitar tone... that kind of sound is what I didn't like about my axe-fx and why I ended up getting rid of it. The clean, ambient bits sound great though.

I don't dislike the high pitched art-fag approach of Anthony Green. Anthony Green is one of my favourite vocalists, but he knows how to emote and express himself through his singing. Casey? Not so much. This guy? A little more so but there's still a massive emotion deficiency there.

The band obviously wants "the human element" there so why not pick someone that actually sounds like a human being, y'know someone with flaws and those invisible scars that make all the greatest vocalists who and what they are rather than a perfect pretty boy that probably hasn't ever had a bad day in his life.

edit: and yeah i get you on the axe-fx thing. most axe-fx clips do just sound like axe-fx's and the clips ive heard mostly end up sounding.. i dunno. axe fx-y. but bulb pulls it off somehow, but thats just me. mix wise and music wise i have absolutely zero complaints.

Honestly, I can tell listening to it that either 1. Bulb isn't used to mixing vocals, or 2. that $8000 Sony mic they used just doesn't work for his voice.

The rest of it is cool.

Besides the hihat.

Seriously, fuck that hihat.

Yeah I'm not huge fan of the guitar sound either Josh. Every time I've ever heard the Axe FX try to do a saturated, Sneap-esque type tone, it always ends up being too tight and "Djenty". I remember when Jeff (TD) pretty much proved that the Line 6 stuff absolutely slaughtered the Axe FX for saturated as shit tones.
But I guess when you're Periphery, the saturated tone with a nice dose of lower mids doesn't work so well with the aesthetic

It's all personal preference of course, but I'm not so sure... I'm pretty into the low tuned, super tight rhythmic stuff too, and I think I can get there pretty well with a tubescreamer + 5150 (or a few other amps) + tight playing... *shrug*

5150 III will do it fer ya ;)

Haha, thanks again for that bud. That was a good deal. very cool of you.

You won't believe what happened to me the very next day though, man... I got in a car accident and totaled it yesterday morning... probably wouldn't have bought that amp or the JSX if that had happened before buying them :/ pretty much fucked right now, because of that... but atleast no serious injuries, I guess...

I tried giving this band a chance but there's just so much shit i can't stand.

The vocals are of course the number one reason. The guitar tone is so fucking sterile, I cant' grasp why kids these days dig this shit? Industrial music has had this type of sterile tone that sounds like they are coming from a computer (which they were, and are now prob with the axe-fx) yeeeeeeeeeeeears ago. And at the end of it all a lot of these tracks are BAD songs. They just aren't good songs, just some nice riffs this kid came up with in his bedroom and tried to put song structures around them.

The mix is nice though, and since it's so punchy i can see why some people automatically say "WoW SO BRUTAL" but that gets boring after a few listens.

haha and sevenstring.org temp banned me for talking bad about periphery. I guess some of the band members post over there? haha, is that forum filled with 15 year olds?

While I'm not a big fan of SS.org and have been banned from there myself on occaision...

I have no doubt that they banned you for being an unnecessarily caustic asshole than for 'talking bad' about Periphery.

You don't like it - great. Easy solution? Stay out of threads about the band. If you lack the self control to do that, at least have the decency to phrase your comments in a way that doesn't make me want to throttle you regardless of how right you may or may not be.

Food for thought: When I saw that "DigiV" had the most recent post in this thread, I thought to myself as I clicked: "Wonder what this asshole has to contribute yet again..."

You should work on that before complaining about everyone else being 15 years old, Holden Caulfield.

And how old are you buddy? 18? Seriously, lil kids get real offended quick when someone talks bad about something they like. And you know how I know? Because it's a reoccurring trend amongst teeny forumites. It's obnoxious as fuck.

I wonder how you handle yourself against criticism on the streets. You cry about it? You call someone an asshole when they tell you they don't like your music?

Come on dude. Man up.

Yeah - I'm 19 - big fucking deal. If you weren't illiterate, you'd see that my last post had nothing to do with you 'talking bad' about something I liked - it was about you being a douchebag.

I don't give three fucks what you have to say about Periphery - I've ragged on those guys plenty of times. It doesn't change the fact that you presented your criticisms in the most confrontational manner you could have, and for some reason you were surprised when someone called you out on it.

I handle criticism on the street a fuckload better than you handle the English language, that's for sure. I call someone an asshole when they're being an asshole. Get over it.

Again, I don't give a shit what you like or don't like - I listen to a ton of stuff that I'd get mercilessly teased about on this forum. My problem is the way you're presenting your arguments and your subsequent amazement that some people may not respond well to you being a dick.

Come on, dude. Act your age if you're gonna be calling me out on mine.

Digi, for fuck sake, take the shit to Harmony Central.
The Sneap forum is not the place for this bullshit

Didn't think i was doing anything that bad. I was echoing my distaste for the band, as anyone would for a band like Attack Attack. Don't see many people here crying over shit thrown at that band...

anyways, it's ok. I'm done here.

I think to some extent I can understand why people don't like the vocals. But in all honesty, Im much more interested in how this bands developed then them being yet another band with a boring screaming vocalist.

Wow, loads of great riffs covered by constant screaming. Don't get me wrong, I love screaming but I think that Periphery will definitely develop into a much more unique interesting band, with the vocals definitely separating them from the rest. I personal think there a few points where the vocals are fighting for space with music, but there are also points where it is perfect match and compliments the music greatly. More melody and harmony, and more interesting on a music level.

Also when the hell was this forum so homophobic? "This is gay, thats gay". Get over it.

Umm, I don't think anyone has been using the word gay in a homophobic context.
You've never heard the word being used in the context of it as a substitution for "uncool" or "really sucks"?
Well fuck me dead if you haven't:loco:
