David,
This has been covered many times before, but I'll do it again for you. Gold Badges are *optional.* If you do not feel they are worth it, then DON"T buy one. Simple. I'll gladly refund your money because I would rather have someone that is appreciative of the badge then someone taking it for granted.
After regular ticket buyers add in the Ticketbastard fees, you pay a total of $20 more than they do. For that extra $20, you get:
1. Guaranteed ticket for PP VI. This event has sold out two years in a row and not everyone gets a ticket. Remember when scalpers were getting $300 for tickets back at III?
2. Early entrance to the pre-party with the bands. This is when the interaction can be found the entire weekend for some. Last year, Nightwish drank hard for the first hour and then split later on. Lots of people missed them. Furthermore, you have a private bar away from the noise for the night.
3. Merchandise discounts. I could not do this last year, but I did the year before. I plan to do that again this year.
4. Early entrance to the shows on both days. That may not be a big deal to you. However, you may want to check with the 700th person in line before the doors open an hour after you get in or the one at the front of the line that has been there five hours only to watch gold badge holders show up 10 minutes early and stroll right on in. Some only get about 10 mins to get situated before the show starts. In the meantime, gold badge holders have been able to shop the vendors in comfort, get their food early, pick out the choice seats or head straight to the front of the floor. When it rained, gold badge holders were inside and dry while others were outside and wet.
5. News updates. You had the opportunity to book your hotel room before the rest of the public found out about the dates.
6. Regular ticket prices went up. Gold Badge prices did not.
Once again, if you do not feel those perks are worth the extra 20 bucks, then DON'T buy a gold badge. I do hope to do more in the future with the badges once things are established. I learn more each year on try to improve on things.
