Piano-based "ambient" music

I just finished a Jazz Piano course.
The teacher said I did very well and "What is your instrument?"
The expression on his face when I told him I was studying geophysics, not music: priceless.
Sorry, I don't like ambient piano. some like it hot...

The friend who gave my sister piano lessons went into a Japanese / Criminology dual major, but dropped it after a year and now studies Jazz Piano. My school has a nice new music building with recording studios and a dedicated electronic music studio, I should have fucking taken music!

If you like that American Beauty song check out "Silver Apples on the Moon", its a live track off a Dead disc called Infrared Roses, played by their piano player and Bruce Hornsby. Same feel as the A.B. song but more to it, one of the better piano pieces I've heard.
