My band was planning to do a 4-track EP but I'm not sure if they will be worth releasing anywhere outside of a myspace player. Before we do vocals I'm just seeing if there is someone here (and there are probably many, you talented bastards!:worship:) that can breathe some life into these self-recorded songs, and make it worth it for people to pay $5 or whatever for a CD. So I'm posting a part of the song with my attempt, and the raw tracks.

Unfortunately they aren't captured perfectly, but I was interested to see what people here could come up with to see if I'm in the right or wrong direction. I think the guitars are quite buried, but I can't seem to get them to sound big. I've quad tracked, but included individual tracks in case you want to keep it dual tracked. I was thinking of doing both, with dual tracking for the small fidgety bits, since quad tracking makes them sound a bit messy.

Anyway, I'll post it now, instead of letting this post become huge. If I'm really impressed by someone, I will probably ask them to do all 4 songs for moneys. Cheers! :headbang:

*Guitars are 6505 into Mesa oversize with v30s
*Rack/Floor Toms are replaced
*2 snare tracks, sample + original (some is cut up to fix some stuff, sample track is more reliable)
*Kick is replaced
*There is a china sample in there, because our drummer's one was cracked and sounded horrible.

hey man, give yourself some credit, when i read your post i thought it would sound terrible, but its far far from it

did you by any chance happen to take DI's of the guitar tracks?

I believe I hear some ringing of buzzing in the guitar tracks from the tremelo springs or something like that. You could tell your guitarists to put some foam between the springs and underneath the strings at the headstock. This prevents the strings and springs from ringing ;-)

Edit: the mix sounds great man! The only thing I'm not fond off is the sound of the kick, but that's a matter of taste.

Oh, forgot to mention, didn't take a DI track (stupidly).

Anyone got a better suggestion for samples maybe? Kick is an Architects sample, but might be too boomy for some.

Also would like pointers for post processing on the guitars, maybe to get some more crunch out of them.

I'd bring the kick down a bit as it seems to sit above everything else, maybe a different sample. Guitars up a little bit. Possibly some more snare or different sample. Vocals can make things sound different though.

Really not bad at all and definitely listenable. 100 times better than a lot of the stuff I see bands around here charging 5 bucks for. They direct record a metal zone, have 1 mic on the drums, do zero mixing, and sell it.

Wish I had time to give this a whirl.

I tried downloading all of the files to try and mix this, but they are unreadable by protools. What sample/bit rate are the wavs in??
