I recorded a short clip of a song called "Mushi Mushi Me"

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/4/sobeitmusic.htm

Let me know where you think I stand production wise and what I could do and WHAT YOU WOULD DO to save this POS production.

-V-AMP 2 into PC (SB Audigy 2 ZS) running Adobe Audition 1.5
-Epiphone Les Paul Classic (Dean Markley 10-46) with EMG 81 in the bridge.

[Please excuse the drum loop]

Thank you :Spin:

Since no one is here let me say something random.

I listened. All I can say is you're in the right place if you're looking to improve you're sound. The rhythm guitar is thin and pretty weak sounding. The lead sound is so digital it isn't even funny. I still have yet to get a decent lead sound out the vamp though so I can't blame you too much for that.

I think the guitars sound ok. The only thing I'm concerned with is the drums. They seem a little high into the mix. I'd lower the volume and put an effect on them, like some nice clean reverb. Not too much though, you don't wanna drench it. Other than that, I'd say it's an ok mix.

Thank you to you fine folk that listened. :)

Death's Acre: Yes you are absoloutely right about the rhythm guitars being too thin. The problem I mainly face with mixing is managing digital distortion when I manage the volumes.

The V-amp 2 does suck really hard. So hard to improve one's sound on crappy equipment.

ChurchofMetal: You are correct about the drums being too high in the mix. Drums are another major weakpoint of mine, because I cannot for my life really decipher if the volume of the drums compliment the track and not be too overbearing/puny.

Suggestion for rythm guitars-

If you can notch out the extra fuzz I'd recommend trying the rectifier sim and try some of the different cabs for it. I think I settled on 4 and 11 for that. Then layer it 4 times and pan accordingly (each different cab panned hard and then two not all the way but around 50-80%) and you'll get a very chunky sound indeed. Make sure you play tight of course. Keep leads centered and if you manage to find a decent lead sound be sure to tell me :Spin:
