Pod and Line 6

So those nice people at Line 6 have sent me some stuff to try out.
I've been trying the Pod Xt pro out today, having a play around. The best results seemed to be going into a mesa poweramp on the rectifier but I'm still not convinced, though you can get it close.
If I was looking for a product to do a varied amount of sounds, live for instance, within a certain budget, I think it would be pretty good.

And the Direct Out sounds good for demos, definately, alot better than original pod.
Any one fancy posting their setting up here??

I can email you some tone files if you want. I think I've got a pretty good rectifier sound out of my PODxt. If you don't feel like hooking it up to the PC, here's where I have the knobs and other crap. You realy have to mess about with the POD to get results. It's a pain in the ass but it CAN sound pretty good. (at least I think so).

My buddy just bought a Randall Warhead with 4x12s and 2x15s for cabs. I dialed it in at his last show.... Holy shit.... that thing is all MEAT!! The 2x15s are great when you play in dropped "A". Very thick. What are they sending you?

DIOBOLIC5150: Hey, did you ever try out those model packs? If not, I'm telling you, they're tons of fun.

Andy: here are my favorite PodXT settings, both of them using the Criminal (5150II) model from the Metal Shop model pack. If you don't have the packs, you can bother Line6 to hook you up, or you can purchase online for $50 each (or $100 for all 3) and return for a full refund after you're done messing around, as long as it's within 30 days. Anyway, these two tones are designed to be used together (I use one in the left channel and the other in the right). I think they sit in a mix pretty well. I designed them using a Fender 70s-reissue Fat Strat with stock bridge humbucker from the mid 90s, so you may have to make adjustments to the amp and post-EQ to get something usable.

I just mixed some Arch Enemy B sides for Japan where they used a Randall L200 (never seen that model), they also used an old grey 421 and it sounded great, really ugly.
Hopefully I'll be trying the new Warhead. Also been trying to get one of their isocabs, but thats proving a touch difficult.

I just received my Randall ISO cab yesterday. This thing is really quiet! I have not miced it yet. One disadvantage is that you can only use on mic, another one is that the mic arm inside the box is quite unflexible. You can hardly change the distance of the mic. But with a few custom moves I think it will work.

By the way, I really enjoy to combine two POD tracks with two amp/cabinet tracks. I only use the shift/Recto amp. Don't know what it is, but is has a nice low end and a lot of tone, this is mostly a good combination with the typical "I don't want no mids" sound of modern metal.

let me know about the isocab, used one that we got off Rudy Schenker in Germany, but it was a very different design and sounded a bit phasey

I just checked it. It works. I used an Engl Fireball and a SM57 and it sounds "as usual". No strange things happening. I normally don't use Vintage 30s (not because I don't like them, but because all my cabinets all have other speakers), so I think the little difference in sound (I think the low end is a bit thinner and the mids are more focused) comes from the speaker.
I have to compare it with my other cabinets to see how it exactly behaves, but this thing is usable and sounds like a guitar cabinet should. Now it depends on your taste.

You can easily buy a goose neck and sink three screws.

Both myself and the other guitarist in my band use the IsoCab's live to get a clear tone, and minimize bleed-in of other instruments, as well as defeat the problem of knocking amp mics over during gigs. I don't use them for recording as we have ample space to record, as well as some great cabs, but the IsoCab's definitely sound awesome, not phasey to my ears at all. And as for connecting more than one mic, just like Egan said, you can just buy a gooseneck and screw it right in.

but how many cables are there actually available in the cab ?
a mean the output connectors cause if you use two mics ...
i read on the randall site there are some loop cables in there too could you use these for second xlr or jack outs ?

Sorry, my understanding was the problem was with the available placement and not necesarrilly the abilty to set up two mics at the same time. That's what I get for skimming.
I don't think it would be a huge deal to add an extra xlr if you really wanted. As far as i can tell all all you would need to do is drill a couple of holes, solder your cable and jack and use silicon sealant so you aren't porting the cab by 1/4." It's a project but well worth it if you are big on using 2 mics at once.
I couldn't really find much info on the Randall site so I'm about existing extra lines in the cab.

you could always rewire with a 5 pin XLR like alot of stereo mics use.
