I've been using the Sansamp plugin for bass lately, just using the SVT preset and making some tweaks from there, but I have a Pod X3 and Pod Farm Platinum sitting around doing nothing and am wondering if anyone has had any success using them for bass?

If anyone has any tips as far as starting points go for rock/metal bass tones using the Pod stuff, as well as any clips if possible that would be killer. I am still contemplating a Sansamp BDDI, but don't want to buy any more gear if what I currently have available to me should be more than adequate to achieve the sort of results I could get out of the BDDI.

I actually got this tip from someone around this forum, think it was Dandelium.

A thing that is cool to do is use one of the bass amps like the Ampeg that overdrive easily and boost it (I use the Rat pedal set to a tiny amoung of drive). Make it pump a lot of grit, so raise up the mids and highs. Then setup a second rig so that it is a VERY clean and round-sounding amp that pumps mostly low-end (I actually like a compressor stomp in front of this one to even things out) and combine them both. Obviously, compress the living hell out of them with the compressor that goes after the amp thingy, mostly the bassy one, and mix to taste.

*edit* nothing impressive, but I actually just recorded this quickly. Strings on my bass as old as fuck, and playing is absolultely unimpressive, but yeah... this sorta what the thing I mentioned sounds like:

POD Farm, tracked the DI with my POD XT.

One chain is Classic Distortion > Rock Classic > Bass: 8x10 Classic > Tube 47 Close > Compressor > EQ
The other is Blue Comp > Eighties > Bass: 2x15 Doubleshow > Tube 47 Far > Compressor > EQ

There's some slight further compressing and limiting after POD Farm, but nothing major.

Like I said, I built it around Dandelium's idea (just found his patch saved in here while looking for mine, lol), but I took my own approach at tweaking it. I can post the patch if you'd like.

*edit* here it is: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/315457/Rex Bass.l6t
