Poll List: Best extreme + clean vocalist?

People on a local forum made the claim that Phil Anselmo is the most versatile singer ever.
Really? He wouldn't make my list of Top 50. Don't get me wrong, I dig Phil. I love Pantera and I enjoy his work in Down. That said, when I listen to Down, I can't help but feel Phil is being stretched thin to make his voice work over that music.

Probably because Pantera ruled as much as him getting killed sucked.

Looking forward to Down III. :kickass:

ha, so track #3 on their first album ("Whence and Whither Goest the Wind") has the vocals playing backwards, and you just think track #3 on all subsequent albums would have backwards vocals? :loco:

Hah, go figure. I'm certain I did not know that. I've also never bothered hitting the rewind button to hear the hidden stuff before track 1.

my 3 winners are

Akerfeldt
Swano
Vintersorg

Vortex and Paul from November's Doom deserve honorable mention

About Quorthon, his growls sound good, but everything I hear him clean sing I burst out laughing, can't help it.

Aaron Turner is probably my favorite clean/extreme guy right now. He's using more clean vocals, and they are pretty durn good.

Well cut my hair and spike my belt. :loco:

Good call, he'd probably go into the equally good at both category (and live his growl could move mountains), nice to see this thread revived. And I agree with the praise for Paul's vocals here.

I didn't quite think Garm's harsh vocals were up to snuff for this category, despite amazing cleans... and then I remembered Borknagar.

Garm's clean vocals on Kveldssanger are remarkable. Mostly because he wrote some phenomenal harmonies too. It's all about the bones, thugs, and harmonies. yo.
