Hammers of Misfortune are from San Francisco. They are kind of bastard-break-off of a band called The Lord Weird Slough Feg, more recently they dropped the first part and are just Slough Feg (It's some Irish name). John Cobbet and Mike Scalzi are in both bands, and are huge talents! Anyhoo, both bands are awesome - kind of a mix between Maiden and Thin Lizzy. Real old-school stuff with fantastic writing and original voice. The music speaks best for itself, so below are two links. One to the review of the new Slough Feg album (at Blabbermouth) which they raved about, and rightly so. And one to Hammers of Misfortune MP3 page. I think you'll dig 'em. Two of my favorite bands.

My favorites available on that page are Doomed Parade, An Oath Sworn in Hell, and You Should Have Slain Me.

Top notch stuff. Talking to Soundmaster recently got me putting Hammers back in the player.

Sting - The Soul Cages

A. I agree with you on Killing Ground. It didn't get quite the reviews of Lionheart, but deserved them. Such a great record.

B. John-freaking-Arch is the man. I really think Twist of Fate is one of the best metal albums of the last, say, 10 years, and it's only and E.P. for cripes sake! I hope to goodness he makes another. I have spun that thing sooooo many times.

C. I've relistened to the new Opeth song as per your suggestion (if only by way of subtle mindmeld) and I do agree it's smoking. I will say this though, I really palbably miss the production of Steven Wilson. My faith says the album will rule though, of course.
