I think respect can be expected, and perhaps you are right about the honesty part. I still don't agree with devotion though. I already have a job and school to take up 12 hours of my day, and to me devotion implies spending the rest of my time (and if I get 8 hours of sleep like I should thats only 4 hours) with my hypothetical girlfriend doting on her. I think doting is the word I'm looking for there. I don't mind spending time with this hypothetical person, but I certainly would rather spend time with her as an individual and skip the doting part.

Having seperate lives is in no way an indication of a relationship being on the rocks or the like. I really think that's what Karen was driving at.
I realize me weighing in on this conversation might seem ironic given some recent exploits, but it's safe to say I've never conned a woman into sex or manipulated or used them. If I'm interested in someone in terms of developing a relationship, I will make it very clear and if I'm not, I won't allow things to progress. On the other hand, I'm a proponent of the idea that mature adults can have consensual sex that is not a prelude to a deeper relationship. But communication has to be there. There should be no manipulation or facade involved.
And while I may have contributed to other person's infidelities, I have not actually ever cheated on a woman I've been involved with. My moral boundries look like an MC Escher painting.

You generalised there, that's unfair. There was no underlying guy-psychology in mentioning those things. That is just what I look for. I never look out for anything else, the rest of that stuff comes later.
