Power Metal?

I'm not a fan of it, but I think Sanctuary is ok. Blind Guardian, meh, once in a while. Depends on the mood.

There are different definitions of powermetal.. if you are speaking of the cheesy stuff thats mostly a copy of old Helloween, like Hammerfall, Rhypsody and all that boooring, pop-like and uninspired bands, then i hate powermetal.
But there is also much powermetal that i love:
Blind Guardian most of all(they are melodic, hard and unique), Grave Digger, some Iced Earth... I also like Gamma Ray though they are kind of cheesy..
I think if you cut off all the copycat bands and all the bands that do not deserve the term 'power', then powermetal is a very cool genre!

I wish power metal would start getting more radio play. Theres a station around here who realizes the importance of giving this music exposure and they play a new power metal track every week. Once this breaks in they may start incorporating them into normal shows. So far the response has been amazing and alot of people have been digging it. if you live in the NJ/NY area listen to 105.5 fm on Saturday nights on the show calle dthe tour bus. Around 10:30 they have the PMS (power Metal Selection) segment. So far they have played bands like Iced Earth, Evergrey, Hammerfall, Blind Guarian, Symphony X, primal fear, Seven Witches, Dream Evil, Avantasia, Stratovarius, Grave Digger and more.

I'll keep that in mind, and in turn, I recommend 104.3 on Friday nights, starting at 11. For more information as to what I'm talking about and to look at previous track lists, go to www.eddietrunk.com

I listen to Eddie Trunk alot. I just don't like the fact that he is scared to play power metal. I have talked to him about it several times. He is afraid of what his fans will think and feels much more comfortable playing stuff like Ac/Dc and Iron Maiden. Thats cool or whatever but I don't get the fact that he will play stuff like Tool, Kittie, and Marilyn Manson which strays away from the main metal on his show over power metal which has roots of traditional metal all over it. ILl give him credit, he once in awhile plays Symphony X or Iced Earth. Also once in his life he played Hammerfall and once he played Blind Guardian but both times its because the band was in the area and he was probably getting alot of outside pressure at that time to give them a spin. I usually miss the first hour of Trunks show because from 11-12 on Friday nights 105.5 now has a 1 hour show called Metal Mania. Matt Murray hosts that show and does a European metal cut of the night which is usually a power metal band.

I remember he also interviewed Vortex from Dimmu Borgir because they happened to be across the street, lol. But I agree with you about Eddie, he's much more Old School, Although he did play In Flames (the new crap unfortunately). I wonder if we get a petition going we could do something about the lack of Power Metal?:loco:

I say its worth a try to put together a petition. I mean I don't want him to fill his shows with nothing but power metal. I just want the music to be acknowledged and have him play 1 or maybe even 2 tunes a week like the Tour Bus does. We should definetly put something together.

Well, I tend to find many of the Power Metal bands very boring because the melodies is too obvius, the lyrics sucks (the lyrics makes the song as much as every other elemnet in the music IMO) and I can't stand the high, operatic vocals (even tough I respect that they can sing so clear).

But there are exeptions and once for a pretty long time ago it was my favourite genre.

AND I can't stand the CD-covers with fantasy motives...

Power metal is an excellent genre. There is a glut of mediocre bands that use fantasy imagery but that said there are a couple that do it right.

I am more of a fan of the american power metal genre such as Onward (RIP), Eidolon, Jag Panzer.

Cheers

After reading all of this power metal still sux, its too cheesy, it needs some yelling or screaming, the only power metal i can stand is a few blind guardian songs and sinergy..... other than that it blows ass! black metal wastes power metal!

I understand what u mean with "Cheesy" -all that fantasy stuff and dragon overload etc...I think the same! Actually i like powerful, melodic stuff (Children Of Bodom!!!!!!), but SOME power metal bands exaggerate a bit with the dragons n stuff imo.
