I was wondering if any of you know of any female metal vocalists that have powerfull voices. Not screaming, but not classical like nightwish. (eventhough i do like them.)
i really like Sinergy, but i have been trying to find somthing new. All i've come across so far is real hardcore screaming, or high pitched opra.
Any suggestions?

Trance of Mine sounds pretty good, but can seem like Lacuna Coil at times.
Edenbridge is good, somewhat like Nightwish...

i've yet to discover a female voice as powerful in a way like Russell Allen, Mac from Threshold, or Jorn Lande. the girls from Trans Siberian Orchestra are good but that isn't really metal...

you took the words right out of my mouth...a female singer with power like russel allen and the like...the exact words i was looking for...but i think thats too good to be true. guess i'll just have to keep practicing till i can sing like that:)

Suze De Marchi. Sang in a band called the Baby Animals who released two albums and has a solo album called 'Telelove'. Not a metal band....more hard rock but she has the best female voice i've heard.

There's a couple of female vocalists in the Missa Mercuria album. The vocalist from Edenbridge has a pretty thin singing style, but that other chick (don't remember the name) is an awesome singer. Very powerful, soulful voice.

The singer for "The Iron Maidens", the LA based tribute band is pretty amazing, as is Dyna Shirasaki, the singer for "Thundherstruck", the LA based AC-DC trib.

Leather Leone from Chastain was extremely ballsy.

Back in the 80's, I played guitar for a band with a woman who sounded like a female Ronnie Dio, and was AMAZINGLY good looking too. Needless to say, the local boys (and some girls) worshipped her.

But there's an interesting concept: the female Russell Allen. That would rock pretty hard.

Keep working on that: I'd like to hear it!

Vann Tate is amazing, but she's no where near metal.

Yay, Leather Leone. And the gal from Femme Fatale - little known fact, they're originally from Albuquerque, NM, though they always listed LA. But that's all bygone '80's stuff.

I can't really think of any female metal singers these days, other than the obvious Lacuna Coil and the like; but, I don't think that's what we're looking for in this thread.

Who was that?

Power female voice = Irene Jansen, ex-Karma, featured on Ayreon's The Human Equation and on Star One - Live on Earth.

Arjen himself describing her : "She is sort of like 'the female Russell Allen."
And the dude knows what he is talking about, since he worked a lot with Russell.

I would also recommand her sister, Floor, singing for the band After Forever.

The Jansen sisters are great, and I recommend listening to them, but they sing pretty cleanly. I don't hear the "down and dirty" nastiness that Allen is capable of. Roy Khan is a male example of this: he's a fantastic singer, but I never hear him turn on the raspy juice like Allen or Jorn Lande.

I'll listen to THE again today, but I can't remember hearing anything that made me go, "wow, a female Russ Allen".

But I'll keep that in mind as I listen again. I could be wrong.

definately Irene Jansen is my fav powerful female metal singer, though on her Karma stuff, her lower register isnt that good at all (I think Arjen pulls something out of her she doesnt know how to do herself which shows how genius he is..which he did with Labrie too), but still at least she doesnt sing the normal rubbish female metal singers do.

Oh yeah... you're talking about Gigi Hangach

She DEFINITELY had the raspy, ballsy sound goin' on. That first Phantom Blue album made my eyes bug when I heard her voice. "DAYUM!"

Kind of in the same ballpark as Leather, but maybe a little more "commercial"?
