I'm still surprised so many people have seen that movie! We even saw it in one of my university classes last year! I've been lovin it since i was a kid!

I think I saw that movie in every class I took in high school, seriously.

Oh yeah, I played the theme song on my geeeeeeetar at a friend's wedding a few years ago! :kickass: The fucking priest/minister/rabbi cut me off after the first verse though.

So finished watching this documentary of "The Making of...". Wow, it just makes you love the album even more. You know they even managed to get Noel Redding's Orange amp head in for the bass recording session on the old Rickenbacker? Aside from looking like Phil Anselmo, this man Nemetheanga is a genius (and so is Ciaran MacUilium for writing the music). Here's a recording session pic:

*head explodes and reforms right in time to see balls erupt*

You know, I'm going to get shit for this, but I'm going to go with QOTSA. My friend went to their show a little bit back and met the band and all of that fun stuff. You can only imagine how I felt when she said "Well I had an extra ticket that we never got to use, if only I had known!"

Primordial

Seeing them live made me love this album even more, and now I'm gonna grab all their other albums as fast as I can! (already have Imrama, thanks Marksveld -- did you get your part of the deal?)

the opening track on Imrama is awesome, that's about all I've concluded about it yet.. but i'm predicting that i'll like the rest with more spins too!

so what do you think of Storm Before Calm? JK says it's way weaker than the others, but I haven't heard it (except for one mp3 once, but I completely forget that), and I have it coming in the mail now. I don't want to ruin the suprise completely... but should I expect to be dissapointed or something?

I've never heard Imrama, but yes, of all the other releases, SBC is the weakest IMO. It's grown a little on me over time, but it really sounds like a band going through the motions. Nemtheanga just doesn't seem to have his heart in it. It's worth having, but when you have Spirit, Journey, and Wilderness already, forgetaboutit. [/wop]

IMO, what JK said rings true. It is the weakest when compared to masterpieces like AJE and especially StEA. It does offer some good songs though.

If you like Imrama, you'll probably like SBC, as both are Primordial at their most aggressive.

I am definitely going to get Imrama one day soon.

Primordial are an odd band in that each release has a few amazing songs, and the rest are good to brilliant. They've never actually done anything that makes me think, "yuk".

The reason why Spirit the Earth Aflame is their best release is because it is the most consistent. Sure, other albums may have certain better tracks, but overall, Spirit rules supreme in all its epic glory. A Journey's End is equally excellent, but it's somewhat less 'epic' and more 'depressing/doomy', so I listen to it less often -- although I can see why some people would think its their best.

There isn't a band on the planet that I would rather see live right now than Primordial. I hope Metal Blade gets their butts in gear and puts them on a real US tour. They should focus on their metal bands more and get a tour going with King Diamond, Bolt Thrower, Amon Amarth, and Primordial.
