Pro Tools 8.0.4 Now Available

I just started dabbling in PT last night. Open up a session, loaded some tracks, crash.

Opened it back up again. Started mixing a song, freeze.

yeah, can someone tell me why so many people use PT instead of reaper? fuu.

probably by not using a cracked version ;)

haha sorry, had to.
my PT is very stable (way more stable than Cubase4)...but let's not get into this discussion, lol.

Bitch.

And I am running Snow Leopard with 8.0.3 so I am just attributing it to that. I just downloaded the update, so we'll see what happens now.

(And yes, I took this picture just for you. haha)

not trying to get this started, but for the people out there who havent seen the past discussions on PT performance woes, I am going to state here that my experience has been quite the opposite. Pt was way less stable for me than cubase. I ran it on the recommended platform (MAC), and even kept my plugins under the very strict "recommended plugins" guidelines. A daw that can't stand on its own when a plugin goes down, is a WEAK DAW.

I've managed to crash Pro Tools only once or twice since Pro Tools 7.
And legit copy or not, every pirated software will eventually come with some bugs/crash issues...
I'm not saying you photoshopped your pic, but if you did, thumbs up, nice skillz!

I understand...
unfortunately it's not that easy for me.
I'd be willing to buy a new mac (should do that anyways), but the problem is that my PT cards are PCI-X.
so I'd not only have to spend like 2500 on a mac, but I'd also have to upgrade all my PT cards to PCI-e cause the new macs don't support PCI-X anymore...that's another couple of grand...
so I'm looking at like 10K in total for a new system....fuck that!
I thought "buy an extension chassis and pay "only" 5k" but looks like from PT8.03 on the ext. chassis isn't supportet anymore either.
so I'm having two options...

1. stay with what I have (old G5 2ghz dual, HD8.01 and PT HD PCI-X)

2. Or upgrade all at ones...get new ersions of PT, buy a new mac, buy new PT HD PCI cards = 10k€

I really don'tsee any other option :(

you probably wouldn't want to switch to pc from a mac but the Dell precision line supports Pci-x cards and runs hd fine. got a quad core last year for around 1,200 shipped.

just an option;-)

The current version of Pro Tools can eat a dick as far as I'm concerned. I want full PDC on a native version of PT, I want offline rendering, and I want some other shit that I haven't dreamt up yet.

wuht.

Has anyone noticed the horizontal scrolling in the Mix window and MIDI editor is really slow in this version? I swear it was fine in 8.0.1 or 8.0.3.

m-powered win 7 64bit here.

Wouldn't surprise me if they did break it again,

Can't argue with that.

Unfortunately Cubase goes down for the very same reason for me, regularly. As in multiple times per day, without fail.

Oh i should also say im running 8.0.4 on windows 7 and its running great so far. IM only 4 days into tracking on it and no mixing yet. No crashes or errors of any kind yet either. So far so good but im just missing some Pdc. Must have not installed right. :muahaha:

PT 8+ has been a bit of a nightmare for me. When I upgraded to PT 8.0.3 beat detecting drums was about 10x slower when processing all the cross fades. This has been confirmed by Digi/Avid but not recognized as a bug. Cause: waveform overviews are 16 bit with PT 8. They were 8 bit with PT 7 and below. I'm not on the fastest machine; it's a core2duo 3.0 ghz with 7,200 rpm drives. I suppose if you have the fastest i7 and 10,000 rpm drives you may not notice the slowdown. It would be nice if they came out with the option to draw 8 bit or 16 waveforms in the new session dialog box.

Got the 8.0.4 update and input monitoring broke. Others are having this issue on the DUC.

I'll have to go back to 7.3.1 because the beat deteciting/xfade issue is really slowing my work flow down. It's a shame because I really like some of the new features in PT 8.
