Pro Tools 9

I've read somewhere that offline bouncing is not possible with the DAE engine.

I've also noticed that plugins (especially compressors) react much better when you bounce in real time + how to fuck will you bounce offline if you're using outboard? I always bounce real-time in Logic too

4096 should be sufficient for most needs. Plugins don't add latency on top of each other the way you are thinking. If you have 12 plugins that all have 10 samples of latency, the total latency is 10 samples, not 120 samples. You only need to compensate as much as the most latent plugin you are using. So if you are using a limiter somewhere that has 2048 samples of latency, plus 500 other plugins that all use less latency, 4096 is still enough because you only need 2048.

Seriously? I always thought they were cumulative, as my reader always shows. Am I missing something here?

Example:
Suppose I put in 2 instances of Waves Rcomp on a track. That plugin has a latency of 64 samples. Do you mean to say that the delay for 2 instances of plugin would be 64 and not 128?

It shows 128, though.

Edit: Sorry, my bad.

Ah fuck you know what you are right. I am thinking overall across all tracks but yes, plugins do add cumulative latency when they are stacked on the same track, they have to.

Sorry guys, I made a wrong :(

well yeah, if you are using outboard you're stuck with Real-time anyway.
However, i did a set of null tests before that proved that there is no difference between Real-time and Offline bouncing. a few others in the thread repeated the tests in different daws and got the same result.

the only exception are plugins that have a random element, like some reverbs, which will never bounce the same way twice anyway, regardless of whether its realtime or offline.

The kind of people Avid targets, they're not really the 100% ITB type. Most 'big-guy' pro tools production have a lot of outboard processing going on. And yeh, time dependent plugins do work better in real-time.

I can't really grasp that reverb thing you said, though.

He is saying everything bounces the same regardless of realtime or offline except for certain reverbs - but it's because they produce a different result every time so you cannot perform a null test on bounces with those on them, is all.

awesome, now I can sell my HD cards and use the money to upgrade to a new mac and 9HD....cause I don'z need the cards/DSP with a new mac (I got that right that I don't need the cards for HD anymore, aye?)

I'm happy

What happened to, "PTHD is expensive because it's pro, stop bitching that it costs $250,000 to get ADC, it's worth it, the worst thing AVID could ever do is remove the hardware dependency, etc."

Damn it feels good that a multi-million dollar company finally did exactly what I said they should do, down to the T! Good on them, I will be upgrading soon I know it, even though I NEVER use Pro Tools and probably never will  Soooo happy that they finally killed all the mid level lines and finally just created "Pro Tools" and have a tiered hardware system instead of tiered software. It is soooo much more logical and even the new toolkit makes sense because it's a lot of features that are specific to certain users instead of features that EVERYONE wants. It caters mostly to post facilities now who can drop the cash on it no problem.

Im pretty sure at the end of the live stream someone asked a question about offline bouncing and they said they are working on it.
it was on the "next" list of things to get to because they were addressing the main things people wanted first.

Excuse my bad grammar skills. My post was saturated towards outboard gear and why PT doesn't offer offline bouncing.
But yeh, ITB compressors do respond better with real-time processing AFAIK. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah everyone can calm down about these other features for a minute... They stated that the stuff at the top of the "ideascale" FR site is on their radar and will be getting looked at. They can't really make promises like that publicly so they have to be careful with what they say, but they seem to be working hard to please customers now and it doesn't make sense to ignore what the customers want so I'm sure we'll see it sooner than later.

The PTHD crack that came out was a game changer for them and pushed PT9 way ahead of schedule. 8.5 was supposed to be the next release but they hauled ass to get PT9 out the door this early instead, so give them a little bit of a break while they start working on what's next... They just brought about some MASSIVE changes in PT9, give a little credit where credit is due.

Ok, so those of you that have PT9. How is it? Stable on non-avid hardware? how is the ADC? any complaints? :D

Im working on getting mine later in the day, Im just really anxious for it.

I'm a big Pro Tools fan and used it a ton but I've been happy with the switch to Logic 9 atm. I'll probably upgrade to pro tools 9 but not anytime soon, probably when I get a new Mac

So far so good! Protools 9 is instaled and works.

Im still installing all my plugins and making sure i have all the latest updates and all that good stuff. Going to catch a hour or two of sleep and then try this thing they call protools 9 on my big mix im working on and see how it goes.
