Pro Tools 9

Ermin, I'm not trying to start a Reaper/whatEverDAWyouPrefer VS Pro-Tools argument

No but really you are. This thread is SPECIFICALLY about Pro Tools 9, yet you have to come in here and foam at the mouth like a hooker with too much cum in her mouth about how much "better" reaper is for everyone.

Bla bla bla ... If you want to praise Reaper, by all means praise it! Its a great platform for people who dont like to spend a lot of money.

This is a thread about PRO TOOLS, not Reaper, Not Sonar, Not Logic, Not Cubase, Not Nuendo ..... so please if you have no comments other then "Reaper is better then all"... just keep your mouth shut and take your off topic loving ass where it belongs.

THE OFF TOPIC SECTION!

Nothing personal, just seriously tired of Reaper coming up in EVERY DAW discussion. Its almost as bad as the Axe FX shit over on GS ....lol

Did you even read my comments? I was wondering how PT9's performance stacked up against other DAWs. No need to be such a dick dude.

Edit: Admittedly, I did take your initial post a bit too personally, as it was overly aggressive. But I see your edit, completely agree and apologise. It was not my intention to start a DAW war.

dammit, if I ditch tha PCI cards I'll loose ReVibe...fuck, I'm loving that reverb :(.
but is it worth keeping HD8 and the old mac just for 2-3 tdm plugins that I love?
or upgrade to an intel mac and ptHD9 without the cards and enjoy the advantages of that system?
aaaaaarrrrrrrggghhh.

do you know the feeling when you're sad and happy at the same time?
very excited and happy about the possibility of finally being able to upgrade to a new mac without having to buy new PCIe cards as well...
but very sad cause I have to wait so long..and save money...can't buy it now...sadface..
it's like a happy disappointment...like seeing an mirage in the desert

Why would you need new PCIe cards with a new mac?

It won't matter so long as Reaper continues to have virtually no 'out-of-box' usability, and the UI of the Star Trek Enterprise. My clients would probably laugh at me if I tried to use it. Hell, I'd laugh at myself.

Anyway.. any more reputable stores offering the crossgrade? Still trying to find one that doesn't need a credit card!
Out-of-box usability? Like hardware inserts?

Yeah, this is what bothers me. Would love to adopt ProTools for everything, but at the moment it would be impractical, when in many ways Cubase is the better native platform for certain tasks.

Ermin, have you tried the VST-to-RTAS adaptor as greyskull suggested? I've tried it in the past with very successful results!

I didn't read any of this thread, but I'd be shocked if anyone is complaining now. Pretty sure AVID just locked themselves in as the leader for the next 5-10 years.

Ok maybe I'll complain - as an HD1 owner I now have the system with the lowest track count out of all of them.
Ah well, still no reason to ditch TDM. Gonna grab an Accel hard, with HD2 and PT9 there's not anything else I would need.

I am also waiting to hear how Slate is going to handle us Digital Download customers who were only allowed to download VST or RTAS and if they are going to allow us to swap. It will really suck if I cant use trigger, or have to re-purchase it :(

All my Waves stuff comes in both version on the DVD so no worries there. I will miss a few of the freebie VST's I use, but I am sure things will be fine cause I can still use Ozone ..YAY!

LOL

the VST wrapper works most of the time for the low-resource windows free guitar sims and stuff, but I think ermin's biggest hang up is the tons of Nebula instances at once and I think the wrapper can not handle that efficiently enough to be considered reliable workflow

I've never seen the big deal about this. It hasn't been a problem in my workflow, but maybe its just because ive used pro tools from the start and got use to editing without it.

I don't get it. does it take twice as long to edit because you kind of have to move, guess, move again, guess, etc? there must be a workaround. I can't imagine slip editing drums without being able to see it while I'm moving it.

Btw for those wondering what the exact features of the Complete Production Toolkit 2 are, there's a PDF on Avids website.
......

in other words you have to pay a whole bunch more money for features that come stock in cubase for $600. lol. no autofades stock? fail!

you can't slip edit at all in PT anyway

and... there has to be some sort of auto-fade engine, because it has beat detective, which in itself is in part a batch auto-fade engine

Yeah looks like an uberfail. Can someone who's already got it confirm this?

Things you're missing without the Complete Production Toolkit2 that look essentially to me:
- Auto-Fades
- Continuous scrolling
- Replace region command
- Automation Touch/Latch mode
- Trim mode
- Preferences: Back/Forth amount
- Preferences: Auto Region Fade In/Out

YESS!

This means this will be pirated within months, which means every stupid fucker in a band WILL have Pro Tools, which will mean it will no longer be this bigger mysterious thing bands care about so much, which will mean I no longer have to give a shit!

Now onwards to being stoked for Reaper 4!!!

hahaha exactly what I was thinking.

I have no reason to quit using Reaper, but still very cool news.

is continuous scrolling like.. auto scroll? I mean, I guess you could live without it but... why? why do they insist on leaving out entirely basic, essential features that every other DAW already has? I would totally jump to to the PT bandwagon if they just got the simple stuff done right. it's obnoxious.

and as far as the automation stuff goes.. this is one of the areas I feel cubase is weak in, but at least it still has all of those features without buying some ridiculous "tool kit" lol

Pro Tools with my MOTU? I'll probably be getting this... :)

Even if/when PT9 is pirated, just because some bands or bedroom producers will pirate it, it doesn't necessarily mean that they'll be able to use it efficiently. There's plenty of plugins floating around the web at the mo - most people who grab 'em don't have a clue how to use them, they just think they need them and that having them is cool.
If anything it may work out in our favour as when accepting a mixing job, I sure as hell would like to receive more PT sessions as opposed to a zip/rar consisting of a mess of DIs and Guitar Pro MIDI.
