Pro Tools 9

That TBH has never caused me an issue! even when i was using UADS all the time, i never used them enough to be higher than 4096 samples.

Yeah for practical purposes I honestly don't see it being an issue either, but there are some plugins that cause massive amounts of latency...

Waves Z-Noise for example is 34,702 samples

There are very few plugins though that would cause problems, as most plugins that have that much latency are not plugins you would run in real time anyways. Stuff like Waves Tune and shit where it gets applied offline.

L3 has tons of latency but unlikely that you would be using it on individual tracks, probably just the master where latency doesn't matter...

Does it still automatically use software monitoring? I'd love to use my saffire's standalone mixer for some latency free monitoring

Yeah, the way most people have adopted in Cubase and other such DAWs is to use it with the mouse. To my knowledge PT only offers slipping with the keyboard.

Really it's not as big a deal as people make it out to be. It's all about what you've learned and what you're used to. PT's editing is perfectly functional without it - you just need to re-arrange your head space a bit and you'll be fine.

I'm probably wrong but I as you know I purchased MPPT book (if you haven't already read it, you need to Erm. Isn't what you think about seriously). And for talk about drum editing, only slip editing (by mouse as you can see on video tutorial provided with the book) was used. BD was used for rythmical element like shaker...etc. So wtf?

I use dsp monitoring also with my profire 2626, muting all the tracks in PT...but it's not the same of using HD.
With HD you can mix your tracks during the recording, using plugins and compressors, with zero latency...and it's awesome.
With the profire is a pain in the ass because you have to mute-unmute tracks everytime you wanna check something....it's prettu annoying

I know someone had mentioned it, but would a new M-Box 2 get a free PT 9 upgrade? I want to be able to have a dedicated mobile rig and my old M-Box 2 shit the bed. If I could pick up a new (old) M-Box, it would really be worth the price just to be able to put a PT-9 License on my laptop on the road while keeping the studio intact.

Nah, $249 to upgrade. Even the brand new Mbox 3s are still shipping with LE 8 until the new year, when they will start shipping with 9 but the price will also go up by around $300 or so. They can't sell an Mbox 3 for $300 and give PT9 away with it for free when PT9 is $599 on it's own ;)

I've been following this from a distance, and after reading into it, I think I first will wait till the "hype" has settled in either "the new standard" or "the latest pathetic avid attempt to be a hipster".
It all looks very promising (except for some basic missing features), but I won't judge any earlier until I've tried it.
I'm now first building my studio, will continue to work with Cubase, and as soon as I get a new Mac I will look into Pro Tools 9 again..

They're also throwing in an iLok, so I wouldn't be surprised if the price goes up a bit.

So the new features are simply: no required hardware, and more tracks (yet still limited, that's fucking ridiculous)?
