Pro Tools 9

HD users honestly need to shut the fuck up with their bitching. They still have the advantages of rock solid stability, external processing power, being able to record/output more than 32 inputs, the use of the new HD interfaces and more. It's not like all their equipment now doesn't work all of a sudden.

HD wasn't going to be a viable option for music production for much longer, recording budgets are wayyyyyy down and the whole industry seems to moving more and more towards smaller studio's, for whom investing £10k+ in a HD setup just isn't feasible. PT9 is now likely to take over the music production market from the bottom end right to the top.

Here in the UK there is usually a statement of "errors and omissions accepted" or something like to that effect, that runs on web print meaning they reserve the right to make mistakes.
I used to work for one of the most well known pro audio retailers here and thats what we seemed to get away with saying to cover typos on ad's.

Just had a peek at the threads on the DUC
HD users are not happy!
Oh well. They gotta piss someone off to drag the company kicking and screaming into the 21st century

so, how usable are the stock PT plugins?
i have my go to vst plugins that i use all the time, which obviously won't function anymore in PT (without the vst wrapper at least)....i had a quick look at the plugin list, and they seem to have most ends covered.
how about the stock digi compressor? for drums and vocals the ssl e-channel is my go to compressor (which will obviously work in pt as a rtas plug), but it doesn't work handle everything well....mainly bass and certain types of vocals, but i also like the stock reaper compressor for shaping the envelope of the kick drum - 100ms fastest release on the e-channel isn't really enough for the fast double kick stuff imho.

i guess i could also get the waves gold bundle (40% discount right now...), and with the h-comp, r-comp, and C1 as well as the q10 eq i should be fine, but i wonder if that's even necessary or if the stock PT plugs do the job well too?

another point....is there anything like g-clip in the rtas realm? i guess i could still go back to reaper for the stuff i rely on g-clip and process it there

Gclip works 100% perfectly for me in pro tools. I just use the vst to rtas wrapper.

The stock PT plugins are pretty good. I never use the compressor, but the EQ is fine, the gate works very well, and all of the AIR plugins are great. I also use D-verb and PT Delay 90% of the time for my reberbs and delays

Definitely a good time to get the gold bundle right now though

oh, and most importantly: what about drum replacement software????
i'm using (and loving) aptrigga2 as of right now, and it's great. vst/au only, unfortunately....

well... I have it on VERY good authority that a certain Swedish producer largely works using the stock Digi plug ins.
The eq3 is awesome.
The new AIR stuff is really cool.
compressor is good but a little tricky to set.
If you can't get a good sound out of these Plugins... It aint the plugins.

thanks :) that's good to know.

i'm torn between the waves gold pack and sticking with reaper for another while, and jumping ship to PT9 and maybe get the vst wrapper too.
while i have never worked in PT so far, i watched a lot of videos on PT, especially the editing aspects, and they do indeed seem KILLER. i'm mostly working with real drums (and so-so drummers :( ) so editing is a huge one for me.

How well does the VST to RTAS wrapper work with the free amp sims from LePou, Nick Crow, onqel etc.?

Wondering whether I can do pre-production straight into PT (dream come true in terms of saving time!).
