Pro Tools 9

Apparently with the CPTK all the software features are the same, as in the amount of tracks / busses / etc. The only difference is the low latency monitoring provided by the cards, the ability to use Avid Hardware (yay?) and the stability that comes along with that. You also get the ability to Track Punch and Destructive Track punch, but I'm not at all familiar with that having never used HD.

Wait... so does CPTK gives you full ADC like in PT HD? Cause isnt ADC on PT9 crippled by 4096 samples? If it does Ill jump straight in!

I already explained this to you on the last page...

Yeah it is... That's one of the complaints actually.

The max is 4096 in both systems. That's a TDM/DSP related limitation. So the PT9 has the same limitation because Avid can't make it better than HD, even though there is no technical reason why they can't do it. They just can't offer a better product to the Native customers and piss off the HD owners.

It's only 4096 samples because HD's ADC is tied to the cards and the card architecture itself apparently limits it to 4096, in a native system there is no theoretical limit. But could you imagine the uproar from the HD guys if all of a sudden Native had full ADC after having nothing, and HDTDM was tied to 4096 because of the cards!

Many HD guys are already pissed at this upgrade. HD guys get far less for their $249 than the LE users do. Have a look at the DUC, the amount of whining is pathetic really. I have my reasons for not updating (yet) but it's not because I think I'm entitled to a free update.
You can't make everyone happy all the time. It is a company with many employees that somehow need to be paid.

Why would hd users complain at all? They spent thousands upon thousands for their setup and then are mad for a couple hundred dollar update? I mean being able to take an hd sesh and throw it on a laptop to go is worth far more than $600 IMHO

HD guys really should have seen this coming. It's the way the market has been funneling DAW developers for years now. Any resulting bitching is due to their own lack of foresight/patience. It's bad enough that the software is arbitrarily capped at 4096 sample compensation just to ease their feelings.

I did and sold my rig while the prices were still good, there has been a vibe of some big change for ages now that gave me the feeling it was time to make a move,
Hell i miss using my HD plugins like the Eventide Anthology 2 but LE was fine really for what i do and i only felt a bit crippled by the amount of buses etc which is all sorted now in 9,
I would still get another HD rig if the prices come right down in the 2nd hand market,
My Mix rig is still going strong on an old Mac so i think there is still plenty of mileage in HD yet, its just the drop in value that will piss people off, but if its paying for itself in work nobody has any cause to bitch about it really.

When you get the boxed version, do they still give you an electronic download link?

I don't really want to wait for the box to get here, but the 2nd iLok could be useful for dumping demo/beta licenses onto.

This is why I held off upgrading to HD.
I reckon i might order the box so I can get the new iLok.
