Pro Tools 9

Don't know if this was mentioned yet, but here's a tip for getting $50 off full market price and get an Mbox 2 mini in the process at no extra charge...

Buy that, then...

Crossgrade:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PT9LEup

Cross grades are good on PT 8 only. 7.4 is not valid. Anyone who purchased the Complete toolkit between October and now will receive a free upgrade to the current incarnation. Biggest effects of Toolkit are more tracks (more than any of us may ever need) as well as expanded video capabilities. No more MP toolkit for PT 9 (don't need it). And yes it really works as a standalone without error, I've personally seen it in action. I'm looking forward to seeing 32 channels of simultaneous I/O.

Actually you would get $300 off. If you buy an Avid interface after Oct 4 you get PT 9 for $99 or so I read...

I think you might be referring to this...

Looks like you do get a discount if you have the older MPTK's.

No not quite... What I mean is PT9 now includes the Music Production Toolkit for free. So even though I paid for that toolkit, someone who never bought it gets the same upgrade price to PT9 as me and gets all those features for free.

I feel like I should get a discount on the crossgrade vs. someone who didn't buy that toolkit...

I haven't heard that, could be in the works but it's not something I'm aware of. There were 6 different price points that could be managed through different routes. I'll check the official literature tomorrow.

Argh, where the hell do I get the LE crossgrade and not need a credit card? Tried Sweetwater, but they say there's a mistake in my billing info, tried Digi and they demand you have a credit card attached to your PayPal (no eCheque).

!!!?? I need to get rid of this mbox ASAP, haha!

Does Tony sell DAWs?

I bought both my 002's used does this matter?

Don't think so. Just try it. If it doesn't work it won't let you buy it.

is the original Mbox qualified for the crossgrade?

also, I love that you have a folder called "SHIT" lol

Don't think original is but I could be wrong.

and yes my shit folder is quite epic.

Does your hardware have to be registered? Or is yours i should ask?

Don't think I registered my hardware but maybe I did. Like I said just try it.

And it's totally available to whomever said it was on pre order...as my screenshot shows ;)

Yeah, there needs to be some kind of demo. I dont wanna spend $600 on something I dont know if ill like at all. All of the reasons I never wanted to try Protools have been taken care of. Id still like to know what its like to actually use it before I make my mind up about it.

Can someone who bought it make a little 5 min video showing it in action???
Im sure lots of us would wanna see that!

+1 to the demo. I'm almost sort of intrigued enough to venture outside of the cubase world.

I'm mostly worried about this input monitoring nonsense? does it or doesn't it have it lol, seems like a pretty basic feature to leave out, who actually monitors through their interface honestly?

does the ADC work properly? what if you've got a full chain of plugs. 4000ish samples seems like it could get used up pretty fast.

and being able to see the waveform while moving stuff around, did they finally fix that?

how's the midi?

It has input monitoring, in fact you can't even turn it off if you try. If a track is record enabled, you will hear it's input through your monitors.

4096 should be sufficient for most needs, but it still sucks, yeah. I have been told it is an artificial limit imposed so that the ADC on the native systems is not better than on a TDM system. TDM is limited to 4096 because it runs on the cards and that's just how it works for whatever reason, and they don't want ADC to be better in the cheaper version than the flagship version.

Nope, this is what is holding me back.

I personally like MIDI in PT, but I don't do anything crazy with it. No drum maps or percussive style note drawing will be a turn off for some, but the overall implementation is great IMO.

4096 should be sufficient for most needs. Plugins don't add latency on top of each other the way you are thinking. If you have 12 plugins that all have 10 samples of latency, the total latency is 10 samples, not 120 samples. You only need to compensate as much as the most latent plugin you are using. So if you are using a limiter somewhere that has 2048 samples of latency, plus 500 other plugins that all use less latency, 4096 is still enough because you only need 2048.

I was under the impression that stacking plug-ins on a single track will give you a cumulative latency. Usually when I'm running 3 or 4 instances of Nebula on my master bus, my outboard comps meter sounds about half a second before I hear them.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?

holy christ. what are they thinking? i thought for sure 8 would fix it. and when that didn't happen, i thought - no way they will let it slip for 9.

unbelievable. how are you supposed to edit?

Except there is plenty of plugins that give you more than 4096 samples of latency, and especially if you use plugins like Waves DeBreath that creates massive 32384 samples of latency, you are fucked. Here is a chart from Waves website: http://www.wavesupport.net/content.aspx?id=2213

Ah fuck you know what you are right. I am thinking overall across all tracks but yes, plugins do add cumulative latency when they are stacked on the same track, they have to.

Sorry guys, I made a wrong :(

Cool.

Well, one thing to clarify... I have an Mbox 2 Mini and a registered copy of PTLE 7.3. Am I entitled to this crossgrade offer? And more than that... how the hell do I buy it without using a credit card!!??

this, I have the same thing (but mbox 2 and pt 7.4)
and some places say you can with the mbox but then people here say otherwise.
