Problem with Lacie D2 Quadra Harddrive

Hi guys,

I have had this harddrive for a year or so and never had any problems. All of a sudden my macbook pro running 10.5.5 start spazzing out completely everytime I attached this harddrive. So I attached the same harddrive to my other laptop running 10.4.10 and it appears on my desktop. It mounts, and I can see how much space is being used, using disk utility, but I cant actually open my harddrive to access any of the files on it.

At the moment I am getting a friend to use the program Macdrive on his PC to see if I can access the files from his computer. I really need to the files, and was in the process of backing everything up, but fell at this early hurdle. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Any recommendations on a new harddrive?

Open it up, remove the drive, and pop into a different enclosure.

Once that's done, I bet it will work fine. The USB/Firewire section of Lacie drives is what always fails, not the actual drive (which is usually Maxtor).
