Producer: Machine ?

"Ashes" sucks to me because LOG basically threw the songs together under pressure from their new label just to quickly get product on the streets - and it shows.

I've heard all the riffs on that album before. Like 20 years ago...

Ashes of the Wake sucks?

If complete clarity of all guitars makes an album "suck" then, you'd be right... But in this case, you are wrong. Ashes of the Wake fucking kills. Top 10 of 2004.

Machine had a great idea for the guitar production on Ashes. In addition to Lamb Of God's usual Mesa Mark IVs, the signal was either split or reamped (I don't remember which) to an old Marshall JTM 45- a single channel, non master volume Plexi style head. An AC/DC type gain, comparatively clean in a metal context. That's mixed in with the Mark IVs, and there's only one rhythm guitar performance (across two tracks) per side. So it's very tight, and the cleaner sound adds alot of clarity. I'd like to hear someone use this approach with tech DM type stuff; it would likely sound all kinds of kick ass. The guitarists would have to have a great pick hand, though, or otherwise the cleaner track would sound like ass.

And as far as I'm concerned, he can produce all the shitty emo he wants if he keeps working with King Crimson. The last record they did before they worked with him (ConstruKtion of Light) sounded absolutely terrible. A noisy, muddy mess with awful 80s sounding V-drums.

Im not a fan of the real technical stuff like necrophagist .... sounds like white noise to me ...lol

Interesting. Especially considering Necrophagist is about as melodic as technical death metal gets. They're basically a neoclassical shred band with blasts and growls.

This guy kiks ass!!!
That's a hell of a record!

1 - The sound of the drums is "Godzilla"!
2 - The sound of guitars stands for "King kong"!
3 - Lamb of God sounds like "Alien" screamin the shit out!

(Monster movies addict!!!)
