Well, it's totally up to you, but I would never use the Profire on Windows again, unless M-Audio claimed the issue was fixed (they know about the issue and haven't released a fix). But, I have another interface to use instead, and wouldn't have to use the Profire, so maybe my opinion is irrelevant haha

Yeah I thought that was a bit strange....maybe its just like following the lemmings?

I bloody hope not! Im waiting for the money to come through for my interface then I gotta order the new one....so ive got a few days left to decide.

I don't think it matters an awful lot. Both units will do the job just fine and by the time the quality of the pres or conversion are a problem you'll have moved on to bigger and better things. If you're working smaller scale, the pro 40 might have slightly better pres, if you're looking for more expansion for larger projects then the extra inputs on the profire will be important. Horses for courses and most people will never stretch these units to their limits anyway.

Yeah its just these driver issues/BSOD problems that are worrying me.

FYI, I just got this from Focusrite
Thanks for the update. Both the line input and the Mic input do go through the same amplifier circuit. The only difference is that Line input is attenuated prior to amplification.

As I said from the beginning :p

that's a bit of a fucking cop out of a line input. Just attenuate and chuck it through the mic pre? That's bullshit!

The profire does bypass the pres with it's line inputs which is (another) real move in its favour in terms of expandability using higher end pres without extra D/A

I've used my Profire on Vista 64bit, XP 32bit and 7 64bit. Only bluescreens i've ever had have been from accidentally knocking my firewire expresscard out and then plugging it back in, and even then it's only 1 in idk, 40 times.

Ironically enough I was just typing that my LS56 still gives me the occational bluescreen....right as the screen went black and I was greeted with that very problem!

So its decided, Profire....theres a 30 day policy on it so if it totally guffs on me all the time then ill take it back and get the Saffire but otherwise ill be keeping it.
