promo CDs

I would assume they have backround information on the band and such.. because theyre used for promoting the band/album

hmm I kinda thought they would just be not labeled properly or anything, no covers...

but know I come to think of it it sounds more feasible to have it good looking and stuff to promote the band... I don't know, I don't own any :)

it depends on labels

still life promo has just got front and back cover of the official cd edition, without info. that's typical of peaceville promos (i've got also light at the end... by MDB, and it's the same)

century media provides promos with infos and bio of the band.

it depends...

How does one go about getting a promo CD? I got DGM's HIdden Place two weeks before it was out, and same with the English version of Graphite by Closterkeller and The STreet Between Sunrise and Sunset by Satellite, but that's because I work for Nocturnal Hall.

Do you just hook up with the label that releases the album?

My Damnation promo is similar to your Still Life promo in regards to lacking any information.

They MAYH promo is even less interesting - it's the original cd and original booklet in a soft plastic case .. so anyone could actually make themselves a MAYH Promo!

It all depends... if you run a radio show, write for a magazine, or something like that you can usually write to the label and request promos of upcoming releases. If you're just a ragular joe on the street, they come up on eBay a lot.
