Thoughts?

Opeth, Porcupine Tree, and Sikth are the only metal bands I can think of off the top of my head that play them. Think PRS is geared towards proggy stuff intentionally?

What about you guys? Do you use one?

I've played one a couple times at stores, very smooth. I actually saw one at a house party here. PRS single-cut I think. House parties out here usually get shit bands. The band sucked, but they guy sounded good. To note, he also had a 5150 half-stack. The rest of the band was playing through shit (Ibby git and bass, no name cab's, can't remember other heads) and the vocalist sounded like an ant getting raped by an ape.

My friend has a Custom 22 and when he told me the price of it my jaw skimmed the carpet! I played it and wasnt fussed, I like my ltd much more. The neck joint really annoyed me too! But the PRS's that PT and Opeth use seem to be even better quality than the custom 22's so im guessing they are sweet but as Kev rightly pointed out, really expensive.

I used to have a mission to get one back in '99. And back in that day, the only place near I could find one was in Nashville, and then a standard 24 fret only cost $900-ish. Now, of course, their prices have risen just a SMIG. The play and feel arn't really to bad, and I the guitars have been used across the spectrum of genres.

i think opeths prs' are custom 24's. its likely they are private stock models, though. i bet opeth has the dollars for them.

how about the pickups (dragons, bass, treb, etc..) any thoughts on those?

i really like the bird inlays. two of my buddies have the 20th anniversary models with limited 'birds in flight' inlays. i love the playability, the look of them, and i really like the smell. while they are quite pricey, 2G is still inexpensive when compared to a gibson custom or something.

I have played a few and I wasn't overly impressed with any of them, especially considering the price. I was more than a little annoyed by the neck heel as well.....and by that I mean it's fucking ridiculous.

I think they look terrific though! (Except for the neck heel :Puke: )

they suck by comparison to a Gibson (or anything else in their price range). overpriced and poor. spend that money on a real guitar.

some people like them though, good for them. their sound is decent and their necks are decent, smooth but uncomfortable, good wood most of the time. overall i wouldn't pay more than 600 for one, but they're usually 900+ for the ones worth buying.

PRS are very very nice guitars. Do they warrant the price and all the collector snobbery? Eh, not to me. They are nice but aren't anything like the hype, but then - what is?

Me: I'm still a happy Jackson man.

I might be the odd man out, but every PRS I've encountered sounded a little "thin" to my ears.... They played beautifully, however.

That being said, you can have my Hellraiser when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.
