punk

I prefer early 80s US punk, particularly Dead Kennedys, Agent Orange, Bad Religion, Born Against etc.

As far as the 70s stuff goes, I like the Clash and Stiff Little Fingers and pretty much the only current punk bands I listen to are Thought Riot and Rise Against

There was a so called second vawe of punk (at least here in Sweden)that consisted of bands like Sixten Redlös, Rolands Gosskör, Asta Kask, Köttgrottorna and many more. The first vawe belonged to Ebba Grön, KSMB, Garbochock etc. and they were considered "old" then the second vawe ( the first half of the eighties ) occured. Common for these band of the first and second vawe is that they all sang/yelled in swedish.

I did listen to nonswedish bands as well, but i could never stand the voice of Yellow Biafra who, like Feargal Sharkey from Undertones, sounded like a "Cinderellamouse" IMO.
BTW about that time I used to listen to many nonpunk australian bands like Screaming Tribesmen, Triffids, Hunters & Collectors, Lizzard Train, Lime Spiders, Hodoo Gurus and many more.

Some of the bands you mentioned is beyond my knowledge since I rarely listen to punk anymore, apart from "nostalgic" reasons.

Yes, Turbonegro are from Norway and the little I´ve heard by them doesn´t make me want more.
But since your´re australian you might know about a band called Bored that I heard around '89-90. I recorded some tracks from the radio on cassette and I know absolutely noone who´ve ever heard of the band. I believe the record was called Negative Vawes and If the hole album sound just slightly as good as the tracks I´ve heard, that indeed kick HUGE ass.
Do you know anything about them? There´s not much info on the net.

Yeah I know Bored! They were from Geelong, about an hour out of Melbourne. I saw them live a couple of times back in the early nineties. My girlfriend has got one of their albums on vinyl I think. I don't think they're still together, they may have done some reunion shows though.

I just found their website, it's http://pinnacle-media.com.au/bored/

There's samples and you can buy their best of comp! :)

I like old school punk very much... But I can't consider myself a "fan"... Ramones is one of my favourite off-metal bands... I like very much Sex Pistols, Rancid and Nofx, too...

Punk is cool i used to listen to punk b4 metal but i was in need of something heavier that how i got into metal. My fav band was the Casualties now its Children of Bodom.

My first love is metal, but I like a lot of punk too, especially the older and crossover stuff- Ramones, the Clash, Dead Kennedys, Plasmatics, Sex Pistols, Misfits, X, Cremains, Cro-Mags, the Cramps, Lars Fredericksen and the Bastards, Suicidal Tendencies, MDC,....

So no one else knows Leftover Crack? It's the best punk band I've heard. Although calling them punk is a bit stifling, because they have elements of other styles such as black metal, hardcore, classical, etc. in their music too. It can be very reggae-influenced or full on screaming with blastbeats and heavy guitars. Sometimes in the same song. So awesome. Get the album Fuck World Trade. You won't be disappointed. But then again, they aren't old school. Very new school. Very inspired by the genre twisting acrobatics of Refused, especially the album The Shape of Punk to Come (very true name, very true).

While I prefer metal these days, I was into punk for a lot of years before I got back into metal. I own way more punk music than metal.

Dead Kennedys was my band of choice, but I also just liked the punk ethic, and the whole trip of people feeling free to make crappy (or not) music, as much as "name" bands.

I love punk. Hardcore punk is my second favorite genre, first being black metal. Of course for the most part only 1980s, a bit of 1990s and a very rare modern band.

Favorite band is either Minor Threat or The Exploited.
