Punk is dead

I still listen to the old artists in fairly regular rotation.....The Ramones, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Stooges. The odd time, I'll put Devo on as a lark. Some of it was decent and has a timeless quality. I still like it and am not ashamed to admit it.....certainly not any more than I admit I enjoy Metal of all kinds. :)

1985, really?

How about backing that up with some sort of explanation. What exactly is the reason punk suddenly died in 1985? Or did you just totally pull that out of your ass?

Punk is as dead as Thrash is.

Thrash isn't necessarily dead either
Alot of kids hate all the screaming shit and start thrash bands
Thrash has evolved into Death Metal/Thrash

punk died but was necromance'd at 1/4 stregth and +2 agressiveness and then flaked out and went emo and sold off its good characters for hacked passwords to porno sites...

its true...

read it in 'people'...

and that's a bad thing?

it's better than them being wiggers and preps...

Good point but if I point at individuals preps or wiggers, I can't imagine them liking metal and I REALLY dislike the fact that my enemies have the same interest in music as me.

real emo and screamo are keeping the agresiveness of hardcore up to par IMO at least. but to me emo and screamo is Circle takes the Square, Hot Cross, Funeral Diner, Saetia, old A Day In Black And White, Rite of Spring, City of the Caterpillar and so on. a few have broken up but when they were alive they kept the true destructive abrasivness and beauty that is what emo really is.

...No..just no, punk was alive and kicking long after 85 and still is, its just really underground and alot of people are totally ignorant to the term "punk" and when they think of it, they automatically assume its simple plan and other such bands. Simple Plan = pop with guitars.

There's a typical metalhead with that "Camaro Teen" mentality for ya'! You are so caught up in your stupid longhaired bongbrained adolescent leather metal world that in your opinion if a rock band doesn't play chunka-chunka thud Metallica type crap and have some ostentatious wannabee-but-failed-opera-singer frontman it just isn't "cool", right? Haw haw haw haw haw!!! Long live old school punk! Fuck the metal, or at least most of it! Go back to your Ronnie James Dio sword and sorcery fantasy land gaming tables and your pretentious corporate formula wall of Marshall macho badass bullshit. You wouldn't get it if it hit you over the head anyway! Haw haw haw haw haw!!!
Then how did you end up on this forum? Someone theorized that you are a "troll". Is that true? It's okay if you are, I'm just curious. Your post made me nostalgic for my old "sword and sorcery fantasy land gaming table".

I couldn't really care less if Punk was alive or dead. Doesn't affect me in the slightest (apart from dickheads showing up to shows and trying to start an "Oi" chant like it's fuckin' 1980)

Wow! I cant believe it took 4 pages until someone mentioned the Sex Pistols in a punk thread. At least the Clash, Black Flag, and the Ramones were mentioned earlier. When the Ramones stared it was just Rock there wasn't punk rock then, like how Lemmy says "We are Motorhead and we play Rock and Roll!" 1985 would be a reasonable date for the death of punk. Good punk bands like D.R.I and Suicidal Tendencies went metal after that thanks to S.O.D. Real Punk is still around, but you would have a hard time finding it.

Punk is such a boring genre, I can listen to so many genres but for me Punk is just yawn the drumming and guitarwork are usually so amatuerish its not funny.

The only punk band I like is The Ramones.

As for rap, well you can't say the word crap without saying rap.

Thrash isn't dead, it's just underground. I'm sure there are some good real punk bands underground.

I've recently been exploring the punk genre with bands like The Exploited, G.B.H., Balzac, The Misfits, and Discharge.

I love how Grave Digger, Count Filth, MTL_HEAD, LiverSlapper, and Zygote have such open-minded, diverse musical taste.

Good rap: Immortal Technique, MF Doom, A Tribe Called Quest, Gym Class Heroes, The Roots, Black Star, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Afroman, Run-DMC

Good Emo: Thrice (arguable), Rites of Spring, Straylight Run, Brand New, Thursday, Alkaline Trio (arguable), Death Cab For Cutie, Antioch Arrow

Good Punk: Where do you start? Fugazi, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, The Offspring, Talking Heads, Rancid, The Clash, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Anti-Flag, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, AFI, The Distillers

I would just like to add Bad Brains to the list of good punk bands due to the fact that they were simply awesome. On another note, I was listening to fugazi about an hour or so ago. Good stuff.

Yeah, punk is dead. It's almost humiliating to tell people you like punk, when the only "punk" they know is Green Day.
