Sorry if this sounds really broad.

I've always enjoyed this style of music, but I don't really own anything. So tell me some essentials that I need to pick up.

The old British classics: GHB, Discharge, The Exploited. That goes without saying. In terms of newer punk, the only band I like is Propagandhi. They are quite aggressive, with some metal/thrash technique in the guitars. They are all vegan and pc to the max, but their music is great.

Black Flag - Damaged
Black Flag - My War
Minor Threat - Complete Discography
Amebix - Arise
Suicidal Tendencies - s/t
Dirty Rotten Imbeciles - Dealing With It
GBH - City Baby Attacked By Rats
Rites Of Spring - End On End

stay away from Crass, they blow.

I'm surprised you'd list them.

Shut up Crass rule.

I'll just list my favourite punk albums:

The Misfits: everything with Glenn Danzig
The Clash: London Calling
Suicidal Tendencies: S/T
Dead Kennedys: first three
Bad Religion: Against the Grain
Crass: The Feeding of the 5000
Agent Orange: Living in Darkness
Stiff Little Fingers: Inflammable Material
Hüsker Du: New Day Rising
Descendents: Milo Goes to College
Discharge: Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing
Ramones: Rocket to Russia

Propagandhi are god-awful. There are so many modern punk bands that blow them out of the water: Thought Riot, Leftover Crack, Rise Against, Society's Parasites etc etc. For that matter, The Exploited are/were pretty ordinary too.

no, they don't. bullshit leftwing pro-woman crap. fuck Crass.

Pretty much all punk is left wing pro-woman. Find a reasonable criticism. Most of the 70s british punk bands sung about anarchy and fighting the system, all that bullshit, but Crass were about the only ones to fucking live it, they practised what they preached, and that gave them a real vitality to their music, like the best of 2nd wave black metal

The essentials:
Bad Brains - S/T (this is #1)
Black Flag - Nervous Breakdown 7" (this is #2)
Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters/In God We Trust Inc. (this is #3)

The Exploited - Let's Start a War
Siege - Drop Dead
GWAR - Hell-O
Circle Jerks - Group Sex
Fear - The Album
The Melvins - Ozma/Gluey Porch Treatments
The Damned - Damned Damned Damned
Subhumans - The Day the Country Died
Crass - Feeding of the 5000

Good, new punk:
Coliseum - S/T
Cursed - III
Arson Anthem - S/T
Disfear - Live the Storm
Tragedy - Vengeance
Fight Amp - Hungry for Nothing
Fleas and Lice - Prepare for Armageddon

I'll just list all the punk I own or have heard:
