it's different, i don't compare local bands to outside ones... our metal is a lot less technical and open minded; but also about the language thing, when i started listening to metal i started with local bands so i wouldn't really know the difference between the languages... maybe if it had happened the other way around (discovering outside bands before local) i would have noticed a difference... our local bands are part of me, i wouldn't give them up for nothing
did you ever hear Claudio OConnor singing? maybe in Hermetica or in Malon... that guy is our version of Halford (very different voice but he IS a metal god here)

ok, if you happen to find a band that sings like... growling, like in black metal, I may give it a try. I just don't listen to clean vocals anymore, don't ask me why, it just isn't my style anymore (I guess I answered my question about Maiden)
it's just that the language really is a major factor to what the band sounds like in the end. the english language is much more... let's say, 'inorganic' then the latin ones.
there's even a band I like a lot, called Malice Mizer, which is a japanese band, and they make almost any kind of music. but when they compose their metal pieces, I've read they say it in interviews, they give the english language their preference, because it just sounds right y'know.
ask some expert in phonetics about it, I can't explain that to you. I listen to Buena Vista Social Club a lot, I love their songs. if they were sung in english, damn would that be CRAP.

A: clean vocals rule i just can't take growls seriously... i really think that's not what was meant about singing, but i kind of grown to like Alexi's growls for some reason... but 99% of the singers i like don't growl
some of the best singers i've heard: Halford (doh), Claudio Oconnor, Michael Kiske, Henning Basse from Metalium, Andre Matos from Angra, Andi Deris, Hansi Kursch, KAI HANSEN ALRIGHT, Ralf Scheepers, Rolf Kasparek from Running Wild (that guy just has something haha i dunno)
and about language: i truly give a flying rat's ass about the language of music, as long as it sounds good and moves me, i'm sold... take Therion for eg., the operatic singers sing mostly in swede yet it sounds SOOOOOOOoooooo glorious
and most of all i really like heavy metal sung in MY language and which expresses MY culture and denounces MY society's crap and that my friend, can't be expressed in any other language

A: this is not the right order but... I really dont like "true evil vocals" but I like alexi, then I like Bruce Dickinson, Tarja Turunen Is a hell good singer but I really dont like Nightwish.. Then I like voice of A.W. Yrjänä from CMX, its so weird voice. Jarkko Martikainen has also goofy voice that i like.. I'll have to put Dani Filth here 'cause he really can make goofy noises..
Singer of Cryhavoc has also awesome voice, cant remember the name right now.. Also my ex girlfriend can sing quite good. I also like James Hetfield when he sings some slow metallica songs like Nothing Else Matters.. One more... hmm... cant find more..
