Queensryche/Symphony X Tour

These response were very interesting, especially from the Fiddler. I couldn't agree more about the two seperate entities of 'Ryche. I believe that after all is said and done after they record a new cd, they still know where the money lies with, and in their case, that is definitely in the live setting. There must be some book cast in stone somewhere with the rules of BANDS PAST THEIR HEYDAY where they research how to still make money. Rule #1 in that book is to play no more than fifteen minutes of new material, and once that has been satified, rule#2 is to play nothing newer than over ten years old. I give Queensryche SLIGHT credit for still staying together, as a lot of people have emotional attachment to a lot of their music. But the fact still remains that they are a band with A) Much inner turmoil , Geoff Tate vs. Michael Wilton in the directional area, and B) Well past their prime.
Oh, and I was a huge Queensryche fan up through "Promised Land", but "Hear in the now..." was and still is, one of the biggest pieces of Shit that I have ever spent my money on (full retail price!)
I think that besides the question of who is going to the show, should also be- If going, who will stay to see ALL of Queensryche?

the one time i saw queensryche was wi th dt in houston and they sucked. they played the whole new album(tribe). they played 3 off empire and 3 mindcrime and none from the first 3!!!the rest was from tribe,Q2gay,hitnf and promised land.

Well I guess I have to give QR the credit for having the guts for playing all of "Tribe" and additional stuff from Q2K and HITNF. Obviously they sank with the ship in your mind that night. That's why my last QR show was on the Q2K tour. I boycotted the HITNF tour and Tribe tours.

I'd be very interested to see Michael Wilton do a solo disc if he does indeed favor the heavier stuff more than Tate.

Finally,

This is a huge opportunity for Sym X. I wanted them to open for Dream Theater on a DT tour. There are so many Queensryche and DT fans that never heard of SX before that would love SX. Finally SX will be able to play and impress new people instead of playing in front of their regular fans.

This is so important for them to get bigger in US. I told the owner of insideout music America on PPII about this years ago, finally they did it. Great.

This is most certainly a great opportunity for SX to widen their fan base.

As for QR, when I saw them on the Q2sucK tour, they played three pre "Empire" songs. The show SUCKED. They SUCKED. Geoff sounded like crap. The band sounded like crap. At one point, Geoff actually told the audience, "How can you expect us to put on a great show, if you guys don't react to the material?" Well, my first response would be, "Because that's your job." My second response would be, "How about playing material we want to hear?"

Amazing, a band actually blaming the audience for their own bad performance.

Oh god...I'm surprised the audience didn't throw their empty beer bottles up at them. Geoff Tate sounds like he's turned into a complete cunt.

All my memories of Queensryche are from the Empire tour where they did the entire Operation Mindcrime album from start to finish. I've only ever heard about their disasterous aftermath leading to Q2K and Tate's solo flop, not having actually bought any release of theirs since Promised Land.

So Zod, how come you're going to see them again then? :tickled:

I saw QR with Iron Maiden on the Brave New World tour. They did a good mix of the older songs, including some of their first EP. Tate still has one of the best voices, although it may not be quite as good as it used to be.

I haven't bought the last two albums, and agree that they can never go back to the Rage/Mindcrime days. Still, on the tour I saw, they did enough from that era to show that they knew what people were there for.

BTW, Sym X's V is becoming a "classic" to me, but Mindcrime is for me one of the top albums of all time (Savatage's Streets is number one overall for me).

I saw them on the Tribe tour and they kicked ass, IMO! I thought they were better than Dream Theater...

They played a whole bunch of songs from Promissed Land (my favorite QR album) and some of the good songs from tribe (open, desert dace, the title track, etc.)

That is literally laughable!!! DT has a far supeior catalog (longevity; not just 1 or 2 albums) and would blow QR away blindfolded any day of the week.

I will have to agree...Ryche got away from what made them and they lost their audience...DT continues to put out stellar material (with the exception of Falling into Infinity...they lost their minds for about a year). I was a huge Ryche fan...then I heard "Pull Me Under" one day...........

Well, thanks for your input on the matter. But Promissed Land is, IMO, way better than anything Dream Theater ever did. It's a matter of taste...

Promissed Land is one of my favorite records ever, actually...

As is Mindcrime, Rage..., Warning, etc. You know, music with feeling and emotion, as opposed to robotic wankery with a female lead singer.

  Although DT have their moments, James LaBrie is without doubt one of the worst vocalists I've ever come across. I'm just amazed that he's been able to get away with it for so long...

It's hard to notice LaShe's falsetto whining when you're masturbating over Petrucci and Portnoy.

That is frigging awesome!!! I am still laughing!! My personal take on DT is- sometimes great, sometimes boring as Hell, singing is decent at times, but often he/she "bitches out", as I like to say. Russell Allen is a man's man, that's for damn sure!

I just love the fact that SX is going on tour with QR, even if only for a few weeks. This is NOTHING but good for SX, there's gonna be a whole new fanbase that is going to hear them for the first time... get some of those people that are closet metal fans (loved it in the 80's but don't have a clue what's out there now) exposed to one of the best, if not the best, band around right now. I just wish they were playing somewhere on the west coast :(

If SX wasn't the opening band, I wouldn't be going. To be honest, if Pamela Moore wasn't going out with them, and I wasn't guarenteed to hear at least one pre-"Empire" song, I would just go see SX and leave. While "Empire" and "Promised Land" had some nice moments, you can keep everything after "Mindcrime".
