Question about Judas Priest

Neither...They're Heavy Metal, with touches of Speed Metal on Painkiller.

Yap. Judas Priest is one of the pioneers of heavy metal, from the more hard rock "Rockarolla" to the speed/power hints on "Painkiller" they have consistently show what pure heavy metal is about and the influence they had on bands from the late 80's up today.

And if they stray from the path with "Jugulator" (more modern US metal oriented) and "Demolition" (more mallcore/industrial oriented), they have re-taken their ways with "Angel Of Retribution".

While they aren't Thrash, I'd say that "Tyrant" is one of the first Thrash songs, with the only song preceeding it being Black Sabbaths "Symptom of the Universe"

I may agree on SOTU but 'Tyrant' is more power IMO, although Overkill did a great thrashy cover.

Negative. NWOBHM started roughly in 1979 and Judas Priest have been recording since 1974 ("Rockarolla").

Didn't they form late 1969? Or was 1970...

Agh can't remember...

They orignaly started out hippieish in their EARLIEST of days. The late 70's came their leather image.

But yeah, I place them into "Classical Metal/Rock" along with "Kiss" and "Queens" and "Black Sabbath" blah blah blah...

1969, but they didn't record the debut until 1974. And indeed in the beginning Rob had long hair and dress in chiffon
