When I was sharing with a bloke who was (literally) the human embodiment of Marvin the Paranoid Android, I tried to implement the opposite rule.

I cook, I wash up, YOU cook, you wash up.

I tend to be economical with dishes, and not make a mess, this guy was a pig. Bolognese sauce up the walls, shit everywhere.
