Its taken me a good while, but I finally managed to hook everything up and record my ENGL Blackmore. Many thanks to Ola for helping me out with hooking everything up, and Marcus for giving some EQing advise.

First (single tracked) recording.

my chain:

Schecter C1 Classic with EMG 81/85 into my ENGL Blackmore, into the Mackie onyx. Recorded with Traktion. I loaded the ENGLv30 higher presence impulse with SIR 2.

Blackmore settings (all out of 10):

Channel 3
Lead: 8
Bass: 5
Middle: 6
Treble: 5
Lead volume: 5
Contour: off

Please let me know what you think! Don't like it? Offer some suggestions and I'll do my best to improve the tone.

Now double it and program some drums ;) But yeah, still sounds good to me! (though could perhaps do with less mids, the slight fuzziness might add up with a second track in there) Did you discover whether the presence knob has any effect?

Has no effect, its a power amp feature.

If I want to change the presence, I'll either need to use another impulse, or use an EQ plugin to turn the right frequencies down a bit.

I'll work on some new recordings tomorrow...I just got home and its like 2 am, so I'm gonna go to bed:D

Yeah, that's what I figured - and I don't think it needs any changing personally, just curious since you mentioned it among the settings above! ;)

whoops, I'll take that out.

When I double track I guess I'll turn down the mids to 5, and maybe the gain to 7 instead of 8.

Sounding nice bro!

Fuck this recording was a pain in the ass! Cubase, reaper and traktion are bugging each other so I kept getting CPU spikes.

In any case.... same settings this time double tracked with drums and bass

Same, but contour on

Seeing how clean I can get on channel 3 with the gain at 80%

They all sound quite good.

I'd go for double-tracked, same settings as you have but less gain (maybe 6 or 5 instead of 8), maybe a tad more treble or a higher presence impulse.
With or without contour, they sound different but both great.

haha you named the files after me, I'm honored! :D

the last one sounds great!

Credit where credit is due :kickass: If I used your EQ settings, I put it in the name.

For that last clip, I started off with your EQ but I added some low end and lower mids...I thought it sounded a bit better with this song.

Glad you like it though! I'm not 100% happy with it yet, but I think its due to not using an ENGL Savage

Sounds great IMO. I'd just use a tad less gain to hear the grit more, and then that would be perfect for me.

Thanks! I guess I may have gone a bit overboard with the gain (maxed out) trying to go after the saturation in Ola's savage clips. Just not reasonable with a blackmore I guess

*edit*

Found an old preamp out track, this ones a bit tighter played...and I also used less gain so maybe you like this one better djabtrash. This is also with old guitar strings...so it sounds darker.

Great sounding:rock: I'd like to hear how a tubescreamer would affect the sound... but apart from that it's a really BIG tone.

I'm pleased you got your onyx and that its working for you:)
