Some time ago i've searched engineer for mixing my band's debut album.
We are now in mixing and i've trying to mix bonus tracks for album by myself.

Got DI tracks for the guitars? Got midi tracks for drums or were these miced?

I just downloaded Step to Nothing and did a quick mix (more to follow). I really like the guitar-sound and the vocals (especially her raw screams). The vocals sound already pretty compressed to me, are they? What processing (eq, compression,...) has already be printed on the posted multitracks?

I will definitely do a mix or two this weekend. If I like what I did, I will post them.
 
Just listened to your mixes on Soundclick. My first impression: Very good frequency separation, good panning, good mixing job, punchy. I am in doubt that I can do very much better, but I mix more raw and less Hi-Fi, so maybe I can add something to it... But we'll see....
 
My first mix of your song "Rise" is bouncing to disk as I write this. I need to check it back tomorrow with fresh ears and then I will post it.
I really like this song, very much my taste. Your singer eats Holy Moses and Arch Enemy for breakfast, tell her!! The screams are fantastic.
 
It sounds like the guitars could use some more impulse. If you don't have any add some and if you do you should probably turn em up. Definitely a fairly solid mix all together
 
Here's my first mix of "Rise".
I am very happy with the vocals, bass and the guitars. As always I have my difficulties with the snare and overheads, so they need some more work. I like the kick, though.
It's already squished to death to make a comparison with commercial mixes easier ;-). If anybody want's to have a -15 dB RMS version, I will bounce one.

I did not use Reaper and free plugins only. I used PT8 LE with mostly stock Digidesign plugins plus some Massey (Tapehead, CT4), Stillwell (VibeEQ, Event Horizon) and IK Multimedia stuff (CSR Reverb, T-Racks Compressor and EQ on the 2Bus). But I can certainly post the project-file or any information about the mix.

Comments about my mix (positive and negative, of course) are welcome!
 
Even if I run the risk of talking to myself here... ;-),
I would like to comment my mixes:
In both songs, I have been looking for song-elements to "feature". That is stuff that deserves to be emphasized, because it is essential to the song/band and/or makes it unique. Examples that I found are the unique voice of course and that the lyrics are in Russian (maybe quite usual for you, but sounds pretty strange for non-Russians, believe me!), the bass-line in "Step To Nothing" and the rhythmically interesting vocal parts in the second half of "Step To Nothing". So here's what I did to feature these things:
  • To feature the voice, I saturated the scream-tracks and made the clean-tracks "nice and clean". The vocals stand out level-wise (maybe a bit too much on "Step To Nothing") because they are an essential element of your band's sound.
  • To feature the bass-line in "Step To Nothing", I ran the Cab-Bass track through a SansAmp PSA-1 plug for distortion and to make the pick-sound more up front.
  • To feature the rhythmically interesting backing-vocals in the second half of "Step To Nothing", I added a whole-note, beat-synced delay to the left and right backing vox. The backing-vox sound to me as if your singer missed the beat sometimes (even if so, leave it like this!), but the delay tells the listener that this has been made on purpose, because everything occurs twice (due to the delay).

Solid work, man! I really like how the kick and snare fit together sound-wise. I still have my problems here... Would you like to reveal details of what you've done to the snare (eq/comp/gate/which tracks did you use)?
I can hardly hear any cymbals or hihats in your mix. Did you use the overhead/hihat or room mics? The toms sound somehow synthetic to me, how did you treat them?
The voice is featured nicely, but a bit too much reverb for my taste while I like the reverb on the snare.
 
Haha... I forgot the cymbals... Awesome... Muted them to check something and forgot to put them back in... How professional of me ? :)

I basically gated the snare top and bottom to hell... boosted around 8k, 1.5k and 200hz on the top, hp on the bottom and compressed to oblivion...
Kick is boosted between 60 and 80 hz (quite a wide Q) and also around 4.5k...

I used all the tracks, except the sub kick, couldn't fit it in there, and honestly, i didn't really want to spend hours on this mix...
Toms are just eq'd and compressed... eq is a slight boost around 80/100/120 (depending on the tom) and around 5k for the attack... I kinda liked the toms, I usually hate the sound of toms, so maybe I like weird sounding toms I don't know :)

The reverb, I agree, there's a lot of it, but I like it on female voices :)
