Reading through my Terrorizer Mag - Most Important Albums of the 90's

Incantation - Diabolical Conquest

It rules, get it. I know I have a reputation for only liking the most tasteless, extreme, boring, etc. death metal bands, but this will maybe even rock YOUR world. No death metal band writes riffs that are more evil than Incantation's, not even Immolation, and this is one of their absolutely finest efforts. It's very brutal and quite fast at times, but it's got an epic feel to it that you might like.

Angel Corpse - The Inexorable

YES!

Note: These are mainly punkrock, not hardcore :\

NOFX - White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean
59 Times the Pain - End of the Millenium
Prophangandi - How to Clean Everything
Poison Idea - Feel the Darkness

YES! You might even like that Poison Idea.

A couple non-metal albums on the list that I think are near perfect:

Slint-Spiderland: An indie cousin to the Isis/Neurosis sound. It's sparse, dark and entirely addictive. Very different from their first album.

Killing Joke: Extremities, Dirt, and Various Repressed Emotions: Just great heavy music, hard to nail down. Post punk/industrial undertones, etc. Their catalog is hit and miss--another album like this is Pandemonium, but it's not as good. Fire Dances and Revelations are great earlier albums.

My Bloody Valentine-Loveless: one word review: "swirly". Layers and layers of sound and oddly bent melody. You may get a bit of vertigo, but you'll be hooked.

That first QOTSA is the worst of theirs really. Has some good stuff but I listen to it the least. Oh, and I didn't realize Danzig 4p was metal. :loco:

My top 25 list is pretty much contained in these recommendations, the only thing missing are a few scattered classic rock albums. Cool.

Stop posting opinions right now.

The first QOTSA is really the *only* one worth listening to

Also recommeded in Atmospheric/Gothic:

The Gathering - Madylion

Anathema - The Silent Enigma
Orphaned Land - Sahara
Opeth - Still Life
Paradise Lost - Icon

Nice list, though I would have made some crucial substitutions...Terrorizer can't be accused of not knowing their shit, though the "cali-metal" thing is ridiculous.

Vader - De Profundis
Autopsy - Mental Funeral
Entombed - Left Hand Path
Morbid Angel - Blessed are the Sick
Morbid Angel - Domination
Morbid Angel - Covenant
Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten

The only one I regret is Autopsy, but if I remember correctly, I traded it for something I really wanted at the time. I'll probably get it again when I have some money. It's not too hard to find, so I'm in no rush.

The others just failed to make a lasting impression.

You need to hear the new one, regardless of how foolishly you dislike Rated R and Songs for the Deaf. :Spin:
