Probably belongs in the OT sub, but I figure this might apply to a lot of you or even interesting etc... At 22 years of age, after 6 years of playing in bands, working with pro companies etc, I think I'm starting to realize the 'hypocrisy' of being a tr00 metal head so to speak..

I've always enjoyed being myself and living the lifestyle I do, and yes, a lot of that for me has been around my music/ metal etc but I'm hitting that point where I'm starting to hate those cliches that were once so attractive. I'm looking around all all these 'metal heads' who are just as narrow minded, chlidish and elitist as every other stupid niche group that exists.

I jumped on Blabbermouth for 2 seconds, and read about 10 comments under a CD Review and just went WOW.... if these are the people that make up the fans of my favourite genre, then fuck me we are all screwed.

So I've realized with my maturity somewhat sinking into my early 20's, I'm just a godamn musician who loves pretty much everything the music industry has to offer. If it resonated with me, sweet I'll happily listen to it... From gore-grind to fucking Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. I love metal first and foremost, it clicks with me of all genres of music, but if liking other music, or not being an elitist cunt shows how 'unmetal' I am... then bring it on!

I think I'm finally over that stage of my life... :)

Shit dude, you're only 22? Awww damn, kind of makes me feel old at 25 lol.
Well done for your acheivements!!

Anyway....topic at hand, you're not alone dude, but it's more than just metal heads. It's everywhere, unfortunately.

Jah. Though there are those who never get over their musical bigotry. That sort of insular, regressive mentality is a large part of what makes the local metal scene here so boring.

Agreed... I used to hold that mentality where you know.. "We gotta take care of eachother you know, we are all metal bands"... That doesn't float when the collective mentality is getting the scene nowhere *locally anyway*...

I want to have my band achieve as much as we humanly can. And if that means not being seen as 'tr00 metal' by whoever.. I couldn't give 2 cunts. So yeah, growing up definitely, finally an adult haha, and hey! Only 1 year after being 21, I can deal with that lol!

This thread reminds me of that one time I went to that night club, Red Moon, which is more or less a metal club.
There were more than a few guys in their 30s dressed like metalheads in their mid teens, all the silly wrist band spikes, denim jackets with heaps of patches sewn on and all that stuff.
Just seems kinda sad that people in their 30s are so desperate to want to fit in with people half their age/almost half their age. People that just never really moved on and never really grew up.
Some metalhead girls I know that seriously listen to metal about 95 per cent of the day are always constantly talking about how they "don't give a fuck what others think" "I do things my own way", but the truth is, they're probably some of the most insecure, self conscious people I've met in my life.
Same with those 'emo', 'scene' type kids. Just so pathetically desperate to fit in with a crowd.
A lot of 'metalheads' will hate on the 'scene kids', but the truth is, both are just as pathetic and desperate for attention as each other.
The girls tend to often be much worse than the males for this I find.

What I've found is that almost always, the people with the TRUE "I don't give a fuck what others think" attitude are in fact some of the most conservatively dressed. They are just so comfortable in themselves that they don't feel the need to dress a certain way to announce to the world they are part of some kind of subculture.

Lastly, I feel it's important to be a well rounded person in life.
That applies to your musical taste too. Getting to know and loving other genres is something every true music fan should be doing.
Experience other kinds of cultures, be it musical or whatever, rather than confining yourself to a little bubble.

There´s no True, Trve, Troo, Tr00, Cvlt,Kvlt or any stupid shit tag like those, only insecure and immature people uses that retarded stuff to describe themselves to make them feel better than others. I do consider myself a Metalhead, though other people i know and i, don´t wear "Metal" clothes that often, even don´t listen to metal music all the time.

I got tired of two things, the "Tr00" stuff, and also the people who are afraid to say they listen to metal cause that stupid shit. if you feel the passion that metal offer, you are a metalhead (i don´t how to call it, not that i like that word too much) i don´t like how that passion is dying cause stupid attitudes and the joy for metal is becoming something too generic. i honestly think metal music is something more than that.

Metalheads were bullied at school. They're the fat kids that have no personality.

As for metal passion... fuck that. The only time I'm passionate about leather is when your mother is whipping my ballbag.

so much truth in this thread. no words can describe my hate for 'metalheads'. especially the ones that have long disgusting unclean hair, never shower, have no personality, listen to nothing but metal and if it isnt their favourite type of metal, then it's gay, have literally nothing going for them, write shitty songs with their crappy crappy gear and still live with their parents through their thirties because they just suck. at. life. my description may be a bit inaccurate because i suck at putting my thoughts to words, but you get the idea. my parents raised me on nearly every genre there is, and i grew up listening to commercial radio, until i was 12 when i looked into less mainstream music such as a lot of heavier stuff, and more sophisticated things like mars voltas bedlem in goliath album. i enjoyed the catchy hooks, and the shit with good musicalilty. i always pride myself in being versatile in terms of genre/classification.. if you listened to my band and looked through my iphone you'd see that i lsiten to a lot of scenecore stuff, but in fact my greatest inspirations are bands such as red hot chili peppers, hendrix, mars volta, the maine, blink 182.. metal gets boring to me... i like to be as musically interesting as i can be. ever since i started playing drums, i wanted to be as versatile as i could... it only made sense to me that understanding every type of music gives a better understanding of music in general, also moving into the sound engineering part of music gives me an even greater understanding of music..

basically in summary, open your mind and you'll thank yourself for it.

One classic aspect of being a rocker/metalhead is being free to do what you want and that includes listening to what you want.

On the other hand being a metalhead and a connoisseur of good music, makes you almost throw up when listening to such garbage as GaGa or Katy Perry or any so called "dubstep", "dnb" bullshit.

Some examples of good nonmetal music:

Metal is what got me 'into music'. I honestly didn't listen to music until I got into metal, now I don't think there's a single genre I don't listen to (some like rap are few and far between, but I still listen), as long as its 'good'.

The one genre I haven't ever been able to get into is jazz. Dunno why.
