reason #17 why i usually stay away from the opeth board

Why the fuck do some of you post in these forums?!? Seriously, forums like GMD, Opeth, and a few others are like taking a field trip to a 3rd grade special ed class.

Let me guess, you posted a Yes concert review hoping to start a Yes vs. Opeth debate. :Smug:

I read it afterwards, well sorta. :loco: I don't bother with those amoeba man, bunch of frickin' morons! I saw a thread there once about "why do people hate Opeth fans?" and some people were shocked, others said "because we listen to intelligent music, it's far beyond the grasp of yadda yadda..." :ill: and the few that pulled the elitism card got flamed.

Under a Stone: if you're serious, let BWD school you on Yes, because he probably will. :Spin:

You know, I could stand to get some Yes, I don't have any...

Bill Bruford is probably the greatest drummer ever. One of them anyhow.

 I just realized BWD didn't even start that thread, and I actually read that one a few weeks ago. No wonder it seemed so familiar! Yes I go to the Opeth board about once a month like how I watch World's Bloodiest Car Accidents a few times a year, morbid curiosity.

That Lord Hypnos dude pisses off Opeth fanboys something fierce, I saw one of his threads there that went into explicit detail of how and why fanboys were morons (it was nearly factual evidence :tickled: ) and everyone got pissed. Classic!

Sorry for my ignorance but i have never heard of this band Yes, can someone
enlighten me?
A HUGE prog rock band from the 70s, turned into something of a pop combo in the 80s, then went back to the uber prog thing.

I've only listened to Closer To The Edge (I think). It was a few years ago and I can't remember any of it. Heard a few other songs here and there.

I saw Yes a couple years ago closing for Porcupine Tree. Despite my love of 70's prog, I've never warmed to the histrionic vocals and esoteric psalms of Jon Anderson.

"Not being some fanatic of Opeth or anything like that, but realizing their uniqueness and sincerity in the world of music these days dawned on me. They are rooted in extreme metal, obviously...but at the same time, are selling a lot of records for an extreme underground act and, in my opinion this being because of their diversity/beauty and unique aproach to writing music in general.

It seems to me Opeth, even if after retired and not touring or at least producing more albums (maybe only no more metal?)...will probably gain quite a bit of popularity to gain a sort of worldwide recognition. Just to justify my statements, and not get ahead of myself, ill bring about the example of the beatles....and no, im not comparing Opeths music to the beatles, but just the situation and timing of their arrival. The beatles brought a bigger picture to the world of rock music, not necessarily inventing any new sounds or advances at the time, but obviously their aproach was unique and had something that many took a hold of. Keep in mind im speaking of later era Beatles, not "help" and "please please me" era so much.

Opeth in a way only took a large/broad dynamic...that being distorted guitars and growling, with acoustic guitars and soft passages...meanwhile lacing it with tons of harmonies and a catchy writing aproach to create something pretty special if you ask me. The beatles took electronic elements, choirs, acoustics, harmonized vocals, psychadelic passages, even classical elements and blended it with rock to do the very same thing opeth did....create something new out of something old."

Despite what Opeth fanboys believe, Opeth weren't the first to blend heaviness and acoustics. When will they understand this?
