Recommend a CD or a DVD

I would like to recommend Italian Power metallers Killing Touch's debut album that came out last May, called "One of a Kind". It's a concept album based on Stephen King's novel "The Dead Zone". The album is lyrically sound, making it easy to follow the story line when you look at which character sings which parts. The music sticks in your head, especially the title track of the album. The virtuoso guitar solo's and supporting keyboard/piano just fit in perfectly in the songs, and Michele Lupi has an amazing voice with none of the over the top vocal acrobatics and wailing sirens you hear in a lot of powermetal nowadays. Check out their myspace to check out their sound!

Edit: the instrumental track "still walking" is amazing as well, it's something I can relax to.

Time's Forgotten, an excellent Prog-Metal/Rock Costa Rican band, recently released it's masterpiece "Dandelion".

Do check their MySpace:

Their first album was quite good, but this one is excellent. It's an improvement in every area.

Very recommended! If someone wants the CD, I have Paypal, so send me the money and I can buy it and send it to you. The new one is actually a very nice digi-pack.

Cheers!

Makes me very happy to see you recommend Myrath. I love these guys and Hope is one of my most played albums since i got it at the end of 2007. With their new album "Desert Call" you'll find that the biggest difference are the new vocalist Zaher sound totally different than Elyes that did the vocals on Hope. They've also added more oriental touches in their music both to make their own identity and move away from the SX comparison. Hopefully some announcements will come soon regarding a release date and also track listing and artwork.

Not to spam i guess i'll have to recommend something as well.

Illusion Suite - Final Hour

A rather new band from Norway which are out with their debut album. Melodic metal with progressive touches i'd say. Have given this album a lot of spins and to me it got stuck at once. Also got to see them do this live only a couple of weeks ago and they did very well.

Mind Key - Pulse For A Graveheart

Italian band this time. Got a full release out earlier and a demo, but i think this album will maybe get them a step further. Also melodic metal with some progressive touches. The vocalist reminds me a bit of Jorn Lande and to me that's just positive.

Thanks for the links sounds like I will be buying these 2

I recently bought a copy of the new Anubis Gate album, The Detached. It's definitely worth a listen if you're a fan of the kind of Prog/power metal that they play. This most recent album, released in march of this year, is a solid piece of musicianship with dynamic vocals.

Sonata Arctica's newest CD The Days of Grays.

It's less progressive than Unia, but a lot more less chaotic.

I can't really give you bands that it sounds like for comparison because there are no bands that sound like Sonata ;)

thanks for the suggestions I really likes Illusion suite alot wasn't to big on the singer at first but grew on me fast
I liked The singer in Mind key alot! but not to crazy about the overall sound Of the music It's good tho

I know it's not recent, but I just discovered these two albums and they haven't left my rotation.

Jorn and Russell team up with guitarist Magnus Karlsson and turn out some fantastic metal. Each album rotates between duets and solo efforts from each singer. Highly recommended!

Hexen

Simple, quite fast and heavy in places, clear vocals. Catchy riffs. They benefit from not trying to be too clever. They are clearly still at the "good pub band" level but I'm quite liking it for that (and probably for its rawer sound, although a trip to Thin Ice would do them a lot of good!!)

They have a MySpace but I haven't checked it - they may be a little tinny on there given the host sites limits - but a bit of old fashioned style fun

The only thing tot opt that duo is Damian and Russel, so you'd better get star one of you don't have it already....

I would hope everyone here has delved heavily into all of Ayreon's releases =) Star One is awesome! Damian, Russell, AND Dan Swanö... Hard to top.

Speaking of which, I highly recommend Dan Swanö's Nightingale best-of release "Nightfall Overture". He remixed his best songs and often rerecorded his vocals and everything sounds much better than the originals.
